Lagos State has functioning programs for beggars, the destitute, the mentally impaired, and persons with physical disabilities. Two of such centres are: 1) Rehabilitation & Training Center, Owutu, Ikorodu 2) Vocational Training Centre for the Disabled, Owutu Both have a total of about 600 persons. A drop in the ocean, yes, but a firm step in the right direction. There're several other programs for the rather less-privileged in Lagos State: Remand Home Boys at Yaba Remand Home for Girls at Idi Araba, mushin Children Transit Home, Idi Araba Girls Approved Home, Idi Araba Juvenile Welfare Centre, Alakara, Mushin Remand Home at Isheri Lagos Remand Home at Isheri Lagos Rehabilitation & Training Center, Owutu, Ikorodu Drug Rehabilitation Centre, Adeniji Adele, Lagos Island Society for the safety of Insane & Destitute, Ajegunle/Apapa The Lagos State government also nominally assists: Organization of Deaf Businesswomen, Pacelli School for the Blind, Little Saint Orphanage, Wesley School for the Blind and Friends of the Disables Spinal Cord Injuries Association of Nigeria (SCIAN) |

Well you are on your own ~Bluetooth: Did I say they are Yoruba? Hausas and Igbos who live in Lagos are Lagosians. Besides, arguments with you are to be avoided. They are often vulgar and unconvincing. |

Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by oge4real(f): 10:46pm On Dec 08, 2009 |
it would have been better to send them for rehabilitation instaed of deporting or "evacuating" them. |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by WilyWily: 11:03pm On Dec 08, 2009 |
Oduduwa people deported them only because those Beggars are poor, Nigerians still don't know how Wicked Yorubas are. |

Any citizen of Nigeria should have the right to live wherever or whichever part of Nigeria such Nigerian citizen chooses and prefers.Such choice should be left to such Nigerian citizen regardless of wealth, health, ethnicity, state or region of origin or religion. Once a Nigerian has established proof of his citizenship, where he chooses to live should not be a discussable transaction by any branches of our government, be it local, state or federal. so what Fashola did was an illegal act. It is an unconstitutional act, as it is equally immoral, |

gidson12: Question- Though you are not a Yankee citizen, what do you think the authorities there would do if you went over there to beg for a living? |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by ochukoccna: 4:42pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
oge4real: Rehabilitate them? Oge, if you were take a census of 9ja beggars, don't you know the highest percentage would come from a certain part of the country? You sure have a hell of a job on your hands to rehabilitate them seeing smashing this cultural and religious mindset is humongous work. |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by Kay17: 4:45pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
ochukoccna:dumbassss niggaa, only countries have the right to deport anyone that is not a citizen for actions in contravention of their laws. not states like in Nigeria. |

Kay 17: i don't recall inviting you to the conversation. Yet since you have chosen to show you are a genetic mental retard, go argue your dumbness in the Supreme court on why northerners kill southerners with impunity yet their governors conveniently are blinded to the fact that this northerners, surprise surprise, are killing fellow citizens for ?contravening? their religious laws which by their own estimation supersede the country's laws. |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by babapupa: 6:56pm On Dec 09, 2009 |
oge4real: How many times do we have to repeat and furnish the same information to lay this to rest. The state built a rehab center in ikorodu to rehabilitate beggars, the fact is, these are professional beggars and they don't want to be rehabilitated.

Even in America, many states banned street begging and relocate beggars everyday, |

Agreed,"deporting"them is wrong in context-they being nigerians.awever,im pretty aware, that there is a cartel that ships most of them from their homes in the north to come n beg here in the south especially lagos n they pay commission to these guys. i believe it is the proper n humane thing to do if these people r returned to their families on the grounds that they r being exploited.further more unearthing the groups responsible for these human trafficking n bringing them to justice would be a more complete. |

WilyWily: WilyWily, I hope you don't hope bashing the Yoruba without a reason will make you a champion of the Igbo or whatever ethnic group you claim. Don't cheapen yourself, brother. True Igbo sons and daughters are not cheap. This is a serious topic that does not need this low-road diversion. |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by Nobody: 1:27pm On Dec 11, 2009 |
Well if the country provided good jobs for people we wouldnt have beggers on the street so where are these beggers supposed to go? Removing them from the street will not solve the problem. |
Re: Lagos Evicts 3000 Beggars by WilyWily: 1:54pm On Dec 11, 2009 |
JProspero:JProspero, Look man, these Beggars are your fellow Nigeria, why deporting them?. is this one Nigeria. I like to see them back soon in Lagos, they has the right to live anywhere of their choice in this country. |
