DEAR COLLEAGUE,

I HOPE THIS MEETS YOU WELL

You have no prior academic background in finance.

You have no work experience is finance.

You work in a law firm.

Hmmmmmmm;

From a lawyer to another lawyer, i think your chances for visa is incredibly slim. The grounds for refusal will most likely be "purpose of visit" considering your profile.

Please don't waste your time and money. Try as much as possible to secure a masters admission or look for a program that is obviously consistent with your law degree like ADR, Legal Research etc.

If however, you have prior academic background in finance that you probably didn't mention; then you can apply. A visa officer would be curious to know why you suddenly decided to change your career path. I mean after your LLB, BL and suddenly you switched to finance. It is simply inexplicable. Even me, i am already seeing you as an economic migrant not to talk of the VOs who are trained to be cynical and skeptical.

Regards.

On the contrary, the course he wants to go for has a lot to do with law. That's what am currently studying here. All he needs to do is explain what the program is in his SOP and why he has chosen that program. Most compliance officers started out as lawyers.

Hi everyone,

I have been a silent follower on this thread for a while now and only just registered last week.

I sincerely appreciate the selfless efforts of every contributor here and pray that God will increase you on all sides.

I am a lawyer of 10 years post call experience, I have a masters degree in Law and I worked as Human Resources/Legal of a Company for about 5 years before my current employment where I do core legal work and for my masters program, I took some courses in Labour Law.

from my research on this thread, I applied to two schools i.e Confederation College in Ontario (PGD, Human Resource Management) and Regina University (Masters in Human Resource Management). I have received admission from the college while Regina is yet to revert.

My questions are therefore as follows:

a. What are the likelihood of a TRV approval based on a college admission based on my profile as earlier stated.
b. What are the impact of an upfront medicals? I am yet to do one but will doing one save waiting time on TRV approval?
c. Does anyone know how long it takes for University of Regina to notify applicants of decisions made.
d. based on my research, i discovered that some contributors received funding from their universities; I am not entirely clear on this as I also saw on CIC website that Post Graduate Work permit can only be granted if teh student did not take any funding from Canada government. Can shed more light on this.

Apologies for the long story, I just wanted to make it easy for anyone who wants to reply me.

Thank you.

Pls can some of the gurus in the house assist with my enquiries?

Thank you

i think you should locate a foreign language school in your vicinity and ask a tutor fluent in french(or is it flemish) to help you break the code...

what is your status in belgium(are you not a citizen by virtue of been born there)

Your profile is gud bro, but u ve to detail a very nice sop so to y u are optin for a lesser degree after ur masters or same with ur current degree, which ever u pick, but I will prefer u go for master due to d 5yrs experience u 've on ground still wit an SOP not compulsory but it necessary in dis case to explain in ur absent.

B. notin much aside u trying to save time in d processing

C.your school will b in a beta position to ans dat mail dem through enquiries, or still u can check dere website. sometimes 21weeks I guess so.

D. can really tell for some1 with funding, for me I don't tink I 've come across it on cic site, but I wish to do my search on it too.

My questions are therefore as follows:

a. What are the likelihood of a TRV approval based on a college admission based on my profile as earlier stated..
@bold.. You said yourself that you are a lawyer! I am wondering why you opted for HRM?.. Of fact, if HRM is your desired course... You may either have to wait until your secure a permit but with a program directly related to your law background and switch afterwards.... Or draw out every was HRM is related to your career under 'Purpose of Visit' on your SoP!!
But from all indications... Your law career seem to be more pronounced at both categories of TRV consideration....(UG/work/masters)!!!

2. You have a masters degree already... In this wise, the college is a no go area... you will most likely be considering another masters either in law (other specialization from labour law) or the HRM with an air tight SoP!!!

b. What are the impact of an upfront medicals? I am yet to do one but will doing one save waiting time on TRV approval?
You answered this... Saving waiting time!!... Not more.

c. Does anyone know how long it takes for University of Regina to notify applicants of decisions made.
A friend got his masters in HRM conditional offer in 6 weeks and received the offer letter 2 weeks after meeting the conditions (refree and transcript) .... This may vary!

d. based on my research, i discovered that some contributors received funding from their universities; I am not entirely clear on this as I also saw on CIC website that Post Graduate Work permit can only be granted if teh student did not take any funding from Canada government. Can shed more light on this.
Funding is usually applied to research based programs... There are many and different kinds varying from scholarships to grants!
The funding referred to in the case of a PGWP is quite different.. Public funding/government benefits.
You are not eligible for the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program if you:
-study in a program that is less than eight months long
-participate in a Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC)
-participate in a Government of Canada Awards Program funded by GAC
-receive funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA)

Apologies for the long story, I just wanted to make it easy for anyone who wants to reply me.

Thank you.
I just hope this helps.

I will look into the Masters in Law as you advised as a back up plan. I just don't know if any school is still receiving application for the Fall Semester.
Please can you or any other guru in the house assist me with list of hospitals where I can do upfront Medical's?

Most grateful.

Dear Taiwo. Please don't put yourself under unnecessary pressure. You can make your application fee using Access or Gtbank naira card. Choose another country code while putting your card details. You can use Niger since Nigeria is not listed. It will work.

You're in best position to know if your work or UG study is related to your proposed study. Your job description and functions should spell-out clearly the relation between your proposed course.

Despite my low GMAT score

Despite not getting a supervisor even though it is required

Despite using two professional referees instead of academic referees (my academic referees refused to reply on time so had to change them)

I just received a mail that I have been admitted to UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA with FUNDING.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

This is a miracle. Congrats.

Whats your GPA and course?
