Two German archaeologists who were kidnapped last Wednesday in Jenjela village, Kagargo Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been released, the police said.



The two archaeologists, Professor Peter Breunig and his colleague Johannes Behringe were freed on Saturday night.

“We are expecting an official statement from Force Headquarters , Abuja with details of their release. Investigations are very much on, and we believe we will get them (the kidnappers).”
A senior officer in Abuja said.



The two archaeologists were taken from an excavation site in Jenjela village, where they have long been studying the ancient Nok culture.

Premium Times reported that two local hunters, Anas Ibrahim and Adamu Abdulrahim who tried to stop the kidnappers were killed in the process.

The kidnappers had demanded N600 million as ransom, but they rather got the fiery police special forces on their tail.

It’s not yet clear on what condition the archaeologists were found.
