Disagreement delays Eagles list

A disagreement over the number of domestic league players to be included in Nigeria's pre-African Nations Cup squad has led to a delay in the official release of the list.

Foreign-based players who have been called up for the training camp in the South African World Cup host city of Durban have been getting their invitations since last week, but an official announcement is yet to be made because of an impasse between NFF top brass and coach Shuaibu Amodu on how many local players to invite.

During the course of a 6-hour meeting in Cape Town, the NFF bigwigs failed to convince Amodu to include six home-based players in the training camp.

They also tried in vain to get him to call up at least two players from the silver-winning Under 17 World Cup team.

Amodu has insisted that he will keep faith with the players who helped secure the Nations Cup and World Cup tickets, at least for now.

The official list of invited players is expected to be made public this week.
