This is to help all foreign tourist who intend to come down here for one reason or the other :

1) Northerners and Southerners : we are different in many ways. So if you are traveling from North to South, you might feel like you are transiting between two separate countries. People in the North are less social and more rigid in their way of life while in the South you find a more relaxed environment and more outspoken people. Learning Hausa or finding a Hausa guide is a must if you are visit the North but in the south you have a more diverse choice of language. If you can speak any of these languages; English, Yoruba, Igbo or Pidgin, you will do relatively well, depending on where you find yourself

2) Nigerians in the South are outspoken : Most people in this area are not used to keeping their feelings to themselves due to the social nature of most cultures within the region. It is not uncommon to meet several people who will comment on things you might feel are personal

3) Spicy food: Nigerians savor tasty meals so much and this is the reason why most cultural foods involve the use of spices

4) Love for children : If you have kids you will be treated very well in most places you go. Sometimes you might begin to wonder if your child belongs to the stranger who is showing more concern about him/her than you expect, but don't be troubled, it's in our nature, kids are considered to be very important members of the family down here

5) Weird sense of humor : we find odd things to make ourselves happy here so don't be surprised at the kind of things that people consider humorous here

6) Police officers with guns: Yes, you will see them on our roads, in streets and in some places you might consider odd but don't let their presence disturb you, they are there to maintain law and order

7) Difficulty blending in: even if you are black, you might be spotted as a stranger easily because Nigerians expect you to behave in a certain way and if you don't, they will know something is amiss so it is advisable to learn about the culture of the people in the area you will be visiting

If you are a foreigner with the intention of visiting Nigeria, you can post your questions and you will get help and advice on this thread.
