MEND's Press Release On The Bombing Incidence Could Cause More Collateral Damage by mekusxxx: 11:40pm On Dec 27, 2009 |
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) condemns the attempted act of terrorism on Delta flight 253 into the United States by a misguided Islamic extremist from the Northern part of Nigeria. Had the plan been successful, it would have left many families across the globe grieving on a day when Christians celebrate the birth of a peace maker, Jesus Christ. It should by now be evident that the threat to world peace will not emerge from the Niger Delta, a region agitating for justice as is acknowledged by every right thinking human being, but from the Islamic extremist northern part of Nigeria covertly supported by its elite who assume leadership of Nigeria to be the birthright of this region. This attempted act of terrorism by this northern Islamic extremist does not come as a surprise to any Nigerian. For decades, Christians have been murdered and despoiled in the north of Nigeria with impunity. No northern Muslim has ever been brought to book for the thousands of Christians killed in this region. Northern Nigeria is fertile ground for international terrorism, The Nigerian government has persistently turned a blind eye to Islamic extremists coming from Northern Nigeria, choosing instead to focus and waste its resources on military hardware and troop deployment in the Niger Delta. The government of Nigeria which unfortunately has been dominated by the north since independence has bred such undesirable elements under false pretexts with the hope of creating a reserve army to counter agitation in the south and other parts of Nigeria. In spite of this embarrassment to the nation, the government will not re-direct its military to the North, neither will the rights of these violent people be trampled as is the case in the Niger Delta. The minister for defense who is a shameless stooge will not dare consider any actions in the north likely to anger the northern elite who have for decades condoned all forms of extremism. If this act of terrorism had been carried out against the christian south of Nigeria, it would undoubtedly have been covered up as the government is so quick to do. The young man who attempted this cowardly act is not alone and governments around the world should pay more attention to northern Nigeria with its threat to world peace than to agitation for justice in the Niger Delta which only threatens world oil prices". By this unguarded, ill-advised act MEND has declared ''war'' on northern nigeria that could cause a backlash on southerners living up North. I heard already that tension is high now, up there. |

I thot they would be rejoicing since both Mend and the northern bomber are both terrorists |

MEND need to tone down the rhetoric against Islam. The West will not support a religious crusade. Rather, other Islamic countries will close ranks with the Nigerian Government. We remember how Islamic countries teamed up against Biafra in 66. |

mekusxxx: this has been mend,s position since inception, mend dose not talk btw it,s teeth or give lip service, they say it as it is. as for any backlash, the southerners up north are fully prepared, and ready for any eventualities, gone are the days of turning the other cheek. |

There is nothing wrong with MEND looking for international alliances. Better to be prepared than have another Odi or Gbaramatu. |
Re: MEND's Press Release On The Bombing Incidence Could Cause More Collateral Damage by mekusxxx: 12:12am On Dec 28, 2009 |
df2006: This is an incidence that we should try to as much as we can to portray as an isolated case by a single individual. Any attempt to rope in a section of the country will eventually backlash on everyone. I doubt that the countries that will be harassing us at their airports will segregate Nigerians based on their islamic-sounding names. |

There is nothing wrong with MEND looking for international alliances. Better to be prepared than have another Odi or Gbaramatu. Well they are looking in the worng place. From experience, MEND is classified as a terrorist group by academics all over America. I spend 85% of my time trying to convince americans that MEND is not a terrorist group but a social movement. However I have not been successful |

tpia.: Fu ck off. SEFAGO: You are looking in the wrong place, because academics don't determine foreign policy. That is the job of diplomats and policy institutions. |
Re: MEND's Press Release On The Bombing Incidence Could Cause More Collateral Damage by SEFAGO(m): 12:29am On Dec 28, 2009 |
You are looking in the wrong place, because academics don't determine foreign policy. That is the job of diplomats and policy institutions. Thats the word, I was trying to find diplomats and policy institutes. Dont forget these diplomats are taught by the academics and academics are the ones usually quoted, and who do research for policy institutions. I remember sitting in a lecture where this guy kept on referring to the terrorist institution in Nigeria called MEND and how America has to cut ties with countries like Nigeria with significant terrorist activities, by seeking alternative energy. This isn't a jab, if you could find one respected diplomat or policy who doesn't consider MEND a terrorist group. Infact long before Umar, most americans I met who studied international policy at always asked me about the growing terrorist threat by the MEND. |

SEFAGO: I believe they are questioning you with reference to Nigeria's stability (and by extension, the bottom lines of Chevron, Exxon mobile etc). Looking at security websites, there is an almost ambiguous position; while MEND's methods are sometimes classified as terrorist, there is an equal reckoning with the circumstances of the ND; in fact, in a lot of reviews, there is no classification at all. Regardless of any of the above, MEND is not seen as an enemy of Western interests and the US has repeatedly expressed its wish that the "amnesty" will succeed. Perhaps, if there were fewer criminal elements involved (now largely taken care off by "amnesty", it would have been easier to link up. Of course there are wider regional interests, but I can assure you, they must be narrowing as we speak. |
Re: MEND's Press Release On The Bombing Incidence Could Cause More Collateral Damage by SEFAGO(m): 12:54am On Dec 28, 2009 |
I believe they are questioning you with reference to Nigeria's stability It seems your view is being really clouded. I do defend MEND in person though I might criticize them on NL, but fact remains MEND is considered in the same vein as a terrorist group in America. That is what average americans are taught in school. No one has the time to hear about shell and chevron texaco. Infact that is the first thing that comes to the mind of educated and informed americans when u mention you are from Nigeria- the "terrorist" group MEND They are really seen as against american oil interests. America does not care about what happens to ppl in the ND. I have tried explaining it to some people, and then they ask what is the Nigerian government doing? Then I just have to shut up. |

Beaf: hehehe. beaf don come again with wishful thinking disguised as analysis, disguised as good MEND strategy! MEND dey look for alliances with the USA ko? Very good. make i tell you de kind of alliances wey MEND dey invite. First of all, free flow of oil from naija important to USA at de moment pass a non existent al-quaeda threat in Nigeria. you see all de brand new amphibian vehicles wey israeli recently supply Nigeria, na Africom go operate dem. for Africom to do their work well, dem go first put MEND in its place to say de least. by de time wey Africom finish with both MEND and other terrorists wey dey una dey harbour, una go find out say, de recent pronouncement by MEND no go help beaf and his MEND cohorts. |

Beaf: Merry Christmas and Happy New Islamic Year to you too. you people and MEND will not be laughing when Africom pursue una and other terrorists enter deep inside creek and weed una out. make una no mess with Africom and no even try compare dem to JTF. Initially, nothing dey wrong with friends such as Africom, helping us and teaching us how to perfect de operations of these amphibian vehicles. all de MEND terrorists will be cleaned out of de creeks. una don carry terrorist act enter USA and una no expect say repercusions go dey ko? Before una begin blame North, make I remind una say una number one terrorist chief inside MEND be Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari. for now him dey behave, others need to learn. |

Is this the same Africom that have been so visible in the horn of Africa attacking piracy? ndu-chucks don't makes us laugh. If Africom are going anywhere it will be to Zamfara, the same way the USA went to Pakistan & Afghanistan to the source of their problems. |

you talk say "That day, Nigeria will divide at Lokoja". i no tink so. de moral of my posts be say, make MEND cool down or dem go dig their own graves earlier than necessary. US interest no be de same as MEND's |
