Are You Having The Right Amount Of Exercise To Keep Your Body Fit? by Afriglobalmedia: 6:28pm On Apr 07, 2017
While weekend mornings are usually reserved for exercises and workouts, a lot of people found themselves doing too much or too little exercise in a bid to keep up with a fitness routine because they don't know how much exercise they really need to do.

So, what constitutes the right amount of exercise the average person really needs? Two and half hours a week of moderate-intensity exercise is what is recommended by fitness experts. Ideally, this means 30 minutes, five times per week, of activities such as jogging, dancing, bicycle riding or swimming.

If you don't have time for five workouts per week, cramming two-and-a-half hours or 150 minutes into the weekend transfers similar health benefits to spreading out fitness across the week.

Exercise can treat depression, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. For your heart, it lowers blood pressure, cholesterol levels, the risk of heart attack and stroke. Exercise reduces the risk of inflammatory bowel disease and both prevents and treats type 2 diabetes.

So how does the average Nigerian approach the issue of exercise for good body maintenance? A combination of endurance training such as walking or swimming, flexibility training such as yoga, and strength training. Although there's no exact science, finding the correct formula usually means picking some of each of these activities that won't lead to over-exerting yourself or injury.
