Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance,
Chief Sir (Dr) Victor Umeh OFR and 14 other Catholics has been
awarded a papal knighthood during an Investiture Mass officiated
by the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Paulinus
Ezeokafor at St. Patrick's Cathedral Awka.
The papal knighthood is awarded to men and women in
recognition of their personal service to the Roman Catholic
Church.
In an official statement after the investiture, Umeh said: “The
conferring of this papal honour of knighthood is the most glorious
and significant occurrence in my life. I am overwhelmed and
honoured to be recognized by our Holy Father, Pope Francis.
“The investing of this knighthood has strengthened my Catholic
faith and my desire to emulate the life of St. Sylvester. Joining
such a distinguished order has been a truly humbling experience. I
have always considered giving back to my community, the State
and the Church a great privilege and I look forward to continuing
this work as a Knight of the Order of St. Sylvester."
The event was attended by the Executive Governor of Anambra
State, Chief Dr Willie Obiano; The Wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs
Ebelechukwu Obiano, The National Chairman of APGA, Dr.
Ikechukwu Oye, Anambra State APGA Chairman, Chief Norbert Obi
and other dignitaries.
