United States And Their High Handedness:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: by playahP(m): 2:02am On Jan 05, 2010
WHEN NIGERIANS IN THE UNITED STATES ACHIEVE GOOD THINGS, THEY DON'T CALL THEM NIGERIANS BUT IF ITS IS SOMETHING UNCOOL, THEY SHOUT NIGERIA LIKE ITS SOME KINDA FOUL LANGUAGE,

I DON'T KNOW IF I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT GETS THIS FEELING BUT I THINK NIGERIA IS STOOPING TOO LOW.

EVERYBODY HAS CONDEMNED FAROUK FOR HIS ACTION BUT UNITED STATES STILL WENT AHEAD TO ADD US TO THE LIST OF TERRORIST(S) COUNTRIES.
WHAT NIGERIA(dora akunyili) SHOULD HAVE DONE IS JUST IGNORE THEM TOTALLY BECAUSE EVEN IF WE SHOUT FROM NOW TILL 2MORROW, IT WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING.

IF THEY GO TOUGH ON US, WE GO TOUGH ON THEIR CITIZENS TOO.
WE MIGHT ME A 4TH WORLD COUNTRY BUT WE SHOULDN'T BE PUSHED.

I WISH THE GOVT. WAS STRONG ENOUGH.

This is a truly sad and unfortunate development. I am very concerned because once Nigeria makes it unto a bad list, it usually impossible for us to get off (e.g most corrupt, most dangerous). But this has been coming. The truth is our government as well as certain civic organizations attitude to potential terrorism was not adequate. Back around 02/03 when Osama bin laden started making references and including Nigeria amongst nation sympathetic to Al-qaeda in his speeches and addresses, I wondered why our government and the various muslim societies didn't take the potential for trouble seriously. Any one who knows Osama history, knows the man doesn't make idle threats. If he was mentioning our name it wasn't just for "show", there was a strong reason why he did that. Instead the reaction was to dismiss the threat as insignificant. Government said that there were no terrorist training camps here so there was nothing to worry about. It is that typical "lukewarm", "siddon look" and "I dey kampe" approach that is causing us trouble now.

Why should the action of one errant misguided boy be causing so much difficulty for over 150 million citizens? After all this is the first and only incidence directly linking Nigeria to any form of international terrorism. The reason is simple. It is the reason why a country like Egypt is not on that list. While the Egyptian government has accepted the potential for terrorist activities within it boundaries and instituted strong counter-measures. We have adopted our usual "fire brigade" approach, only taking action at the last possible moment. It sad to see our name amongst a list of countries that have produced countless terrorists and have long histories of even funding terrorist activity. We shouldn't be on this list but there no compelling reasons why the US should not take precaution.

Facts are that Osama has asserted that Nigeria is among countries sympathetic to his cause (killing Americans & it allies and spreading radical Islam), a terrorist passed through Nigeria's premier international airport with an explosive device, he happens to be a Nigerian citizen, tried to blow-up a plane and to crown it all has said that there are many others like him. The realities are that it is only natural that the US government might feel a bit paranoid about a potential threat of Nigerian affiliation, after all Osama himself said he has allies here. Had our government shown more seriousness before by carrying out investigations, increasing security and information gathering in potential vulnerable areas and had the numerous Islamic communities done more than just condemning after the fact, but assisting the government in asserting it seriousness with ensuring there are absolutely no established ties between Nigeria and Al-qaeda this wouldn't have been considered necessary. If our government were responsible there would be no reason why the US wouldn't have had faith in our ability to deal with this issue without resorting to drastic measures. But look at how we have handled the Niger-Delta, religious conflicts in the North, elections and so man other things.

The reason we are on that list is not because anyone genuinely thinks we are as a bad some the nations that are on it. It is because every body knows that our nonchalant attitude will ensure that we will never address our problems until it is too late.

I have said it too often, we do not have a clear strategy on foreign policy (we never did) all our missions in other countries are just "settlement" jobs for politicians who lost out. whenever a Nigerian is involved in a situation that other nations will show deep concern, we simply just fluff over the matter and move on to when the next nations cup will be played. We never do anything until it is too late and when we do something, it is ill-planned and often hijacked as a tool for corruption. Let us wait till the bids for 3D scanners start coming in, whatever happened to the CCTVs in lagos?!

It's a pity
We help them to put us on that list.
How can we even convince them that we are not due for the list with all the experience of Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi & Jos Killings, Boko Haram evidently backed by some people in government. Is it our manner of conducting election or the choice of Square ministers to govern a Round ministry? or intentional acquitting and discharging of people with evidently high corruption profile? What are we proud of? We need to correct ourselves.
Our leaders that can speak for us are bunch of rogues who will never want  to do anything right because of selfish interests.

It is their assessment about us that made them to put us there. Every School has its own CUT OFF marks.

We play "politics" alot.If Dora had reacted and the court carried out the prosecution of
the perpetrators of Kano crisis,Jos crisis,Boko Haram,Bauchi among others
and ensured that justice was done.Obama wont describe
Nigeria as Security Risk.

May be we deserve 2 be on that list.

We never get 2 d roots of 'terrorism' acts within our country & the whole world was aware of these incidents.

May be they're justified.

we are a very funny ppl.
terrorism has come to stay here in nigeria.
we have been living with terrorism all the days of our lives.
has anyone of us taken time to account for the number of lives we loose year in year out?
this is something that led to civil war in nigeria.
we have lost more lives than more known cterrorist countries of the world to this same terrorism.
why are we complaining abt the americans? they value the lives of their citizens and will go to any length to protect them so what is wrong with that.
will this topic come up if that stupid boy succeeded in taking the lives of 278 innocent citizens of america.
we mùust think like human beings despite our poor upbringings.

Halliburton has already left, Shell is scheduled to be out in 10yrs (i am sure they'll speed up their plans now), Mobil will be sold like ChevronTexaco to Nigerians. Americans in the North are leaving (as advised), Ghana is becoming a base for American operations, Nigeria is becoming a leper in political circles, How much worse can it get

And who says we are not terrorists? I'm actually glad that this Farouk thing happened though Im also glad he didn't suceed. The truth is year in year out, people have been killed in the north, innocent corpers, innocent NIgerians killed in Jos, Bauchi, Kano, etc all in the name of religion. In the past, government has covered it up with lies and fake committees but this one cannot be covered. I am just sad because it is the innocent, ordinary Nigerian who will suffer the consequencies. And as long as we the average NIgerians continue to keep quiet and allow this rubbish to go one, then maybe we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I tell you guys, if Farouk had tried blowing up a local flight within NIgeria, the case would have been covered up by now. They would have told us he accidentally set up fire crackers!

Now Im even beginning to suspect the fire crackers guy last year on a local flight may not have been fire crackers after all!

Like Hilary Clinton told us sometime last year:

NIGERIANS, TAKE BACK YOUR COUNTRY!

Like Hilary Clinton told us sometime last year:

@proudly9ja,
if there is anything we need now, it is taking back our country. the big question is, WHO WILL BAIL THE CAT?
the hands that are holding our country is tough but God for sure is tougher than them.
the bigest problem nigeria has today is obasanjo because he installed parctically all politicians and none can stand up against him.

Whether we deserve to be on that list, time will tell.
But what I do know is that the US find so many ways to humiliate us so that we can live up to our full potential. they recognise that we have the ability to become one of the greatest nations in the world, but our leaders keep ridiculing us.

So the best they can do is indirectly to motivate us, either our leaders wake-up or the Nigerian populace extra-ordinaire should wake-up.
Re: United States And Their High Handedness:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: by xterra2(m): 11:50pm On Jan 05, 2010
This US (God's own country)as they say can go to hell we dont even need them

I think this YOUR government should use this oppurtunity to to REAL REBRANDING by Improving power first, education second, healthcare third, infrastructure fourth then Our Ambassadors in US and UK should call a meeting with all Nigerians in Diaspora showcasing the recent improveement in facilities(mentioned above1-4)and invite them back, they are some Good doctors, good teachers, good engineers e.t.c living in diaspora when this is done
Government should discourage studying in US or Uk telling students we have improve our educational system
if this is done,we would not have anything to go to US already we now have good healthcare, education e.t.c
So we can now prodly say Fxck the US,
We also should establish closer ties with china, russia, japan if this is done,we should reduce the oil we export to US
Re: United States And Their High Handedness:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: by Nobody: 12:37am On Jan 06, 2010
grin Una never see anything. We deserve it, look around you, Nigeria is in shackles. No healthcare, No power supply, No roads, Infact no infrastructure.,Advanced free fraud, Kidnapping and religious crises. With all these , why wont we be labelled terrorist? Nigerians are funny atimes, Is it now we know our image has been dented.
This must serve as a lesson for our fat Idiots that call themselves leaders. We must kill all them one by one for bringing the name of Nigeria to disrepute.
We need a revolution now! let us come together and make this country great again. It all starts from you and me.
America can kiss my butthole for all i care!
