Govt sacks Abia Line boss - For nursing governorship ambition Biola Azeez, Umuahia - 08.01.2010 Abia State government has sacked the General Manager of the state transport company (Abia Line), Prince Paul Ikonne, for nursing 2011 governorship ambition on the platform of the Action Congress (AC). The state government, in a broadcast on its state radio station, on Wednesday, announced the appointment of Mr. Anthony Usuwa to replace Prince Ikonne. Earlier on Wednesday at about 8 a.m. some youths, identified as members of Ibeku Youth Association, staged what they described as peaceful and fair play protest at the office of Abia State Transport Company in Umuahia. The youth, who are mainly indigenes of Ibekuland in Umuahia North Local Government Area, where Governor Theodore Orji hail from, asked for removal of Prince Paul Ikonne, who they accused of decamping from the ruling Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA) and planning to contest 2011 governorship election on the platform AC. http://www.tribune.com.ng/08012010/news/news13.html |
