…We Don’t Trust Him----Northern Governors
…He Has Not Reached Out To Us, Say South-South Governors

Sequel to calls from well meaning Nigerians that the constitution is respected and Vice President Gooduck Jonathan be sworn-in as acting President, pointblankews.com can now reveal that a formidable force within the People Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to block any move to actualize that dream. The bloc is made up of some Governors from the south-south and the northern zones, some ministers, and few members of President Yar’Adua’s kitchen cabinet.

In the last four weeks there have been calls and litigations from various groups including a group of 56 eminent Nigerians and lawyers that the Vice-President be sworn-in as acting President.

But loyalist of the ailing Nigeria President have continued to make surreptitious moves aimed at thwarting the constitutional emergence of the Vice President as acting President, claiming the President is responding to treatment at the Saudi hospital and would be returning to Nigeria soon.

Sources within the Governors forum informed Pointblanknews.com that Governors from the North do not only see the Vice-President,as someone they cannot trust, but also view him as a weak leader. As for the South-South Governors, they are angry with him for not reaching out and informing them where his interest lies, so have decided to adopt the ‘siddon look ‘ attitude.

The South-West and Sout-East Governors are said to be on the fence.

The Governors after a closed door meeting had visited Jonathan in what was described as a “solidarity meeting,” but a source at the Governors Forum meeting held under the chairmanship of Governor Bukola Saraki of Kwara State, hinted Pointblanknews.com that the visit was a mere “photo trick.”

The source who would not want to be named said the visit to Jonathan was “a mere photo trick because what was discussed at the Governors meeting was different from what people now know.”

According to the source, one major issue that came up at the meeting was whether to ask President Yar’Adua to formally write to the National Assembly so that Jonathan can take over as acting President but the idea was killed immediately by the Northern Governors because they claim they don’t trust Jonathan.”

“And you know because Jonathan has not reached out to the South-South Governors on his position since the issue of vacuum began, no one seem to know where his interest lies and we won’t take a position such as heavy as that and have him turn us down at the end of the day and you know this is politics, we all have interest,” the source said.

The source maintained that with the formidable force put up by the South-South Governors in preventing the Petroleum Institute from being moved from its present location in Effurun, Delta State to Kaduna, “Jonathan would have received the letter and would have started acting by now but he refused a formidable force.”

However, a very close ally of the Vice-President who would not want his name in print told Pointblanknews.com that all the game play being orchestrated by the Governors, aides of President Yar’Adua and some of his allies to paint Jonathan as disloyal, would fall flat.

According to him, “Jonathan that I know very well would not fall for all those traps. He believes that Yar’Adua is his boss and under no circumstances would he be seen taking any action against him. He would not do it.”

The source who stated that while Jonathan cannot be reduced to a sectional leader, “there is no way he would want to have a meeting with the South-South Governors to ask for their support to become acting president or President because as far as he is concerned, his constituency is Nigeria.”

According to the source, “if you look at it very well, some Governors in the South-South like Timpre Sylva of Bayelsa State, Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Liyel Imoke of Cross River State are not in good terms with Jonathan. He only has Emmanuel Uduaghan and Godswill Akpabio as friends while Adams Oshiomhole of Edo is AC, so what do you expect would come out if he ever summons such meeting?’’

The source maintained that besides the Governors who have been working to blackmail the Vice-President and make him fall into a trap, President Yar’Adua’s aides such as Tanimu Kurfi, Economic Adviser to the president, David Edevbie, Principal Secretary to the President, Minister for Agriculture, Dr. Abba Ruma who are all afraid of losing their jobs have deviced all manner of tricks to ensure the Vice-President is not empowered to act as President.

“You know all these people don’t want to lose their jobs. They have lied about everything including claiming that the President spoke with Jonathan and you know Jonathan cannot come out to say he did not, so while they keep playing the game, the Vice-President is watching and playing along with them because he remains loyal regardless,” the source said.

“If they like let them go ahead and write a letter claiming that Yar’Adua wrote it for Jonathan to take over, Jonathan would not fall for that. If they can forge the president’s signature on the Supplementary budget, what else can’t they do,"? the source asked.

One word keeps ringing through the article, "trust". Dyed in the wool politicians do not trust Jonathan, I wonder why?

With all the intrigue flying around, Jonathans head is really on his shoulders. I am beginning to wonder if there really isn't Devine providence; here is a man who doesn't fit into Nigeria's politics, but seems to have the wisdom to see long range dirty tricks and treachery before they manisfest; more than anything, he seems destined for the presidency. I am beginning to believe that this man will bring the fundamental and beneficial changes we all crave to the country.

Enough of these "sources", "insider sources", "reliable sources" etc from the media house. This gives room for a lot of lies and conspiracy theories to be fed the unsuspecting public.

There should be a law against unverifiable statements that could trigger real chaos in the country. These media houses have made more than enough money lying and deceiving Nigerians and it is getting out of hand.

It is standard practice for the press all over the World to quote unnamed "sources" for a variety of reasons. There are a few examples in the following "reputable" news pages;
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/jan/08/mark-thompson-row-bbc-council
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/8449953.stm
http://www.dailytech.com/CES+Kicks+Out+Vendors+Who+Try+to+Display+Carry+Out+Business+in+Hotel+Suites/article17354.htm

It is the reasons for keeping sources secret that might differ in very telling ways. While the likes of the BBC would mostly do it to protect the source, or rarely because the UK govt is breathing down their collars; in Nigeria, it is usually because of very real danger to lives and jobs in the news house.
The best thing to do is place news houses on a weighted integrity scale based on experience, hidden sources will never go away.

You can't take it away from him, he is a very lucky fellow. This will be the forth time he ever have to replace his superiors. So you all should be mindful of having a deputy called "Goodluck". You guess, right!

In Nigeria it is also because the story is completely cooked up and the 'sources' only exist in the imagination of the writer.

Our journalists are using these so called sources to manufacture and sell lies and falsehood to the unsuspecting public. There must be a way to punish or penalize media houses that have been proven to mislead the public based on outright lies.

The very second he shows the slightest inkling that he "possesses the spine of a leader", he forever loses the opportunity to become Nigeria's Leader.

The hawks/cabal don't want any leader with spine.
Look at the trends-
The cabal assumed OBJ's "spine of leadership" would have broken in the jailhouse, so they happily brought him out to become their stooge. He failed them.
OBJ thought Yar Adua's sickness and docility would make him a perfect stooge. He failed OBJ.
Truth is the hawks would never allow a leader that "possesses the spine of leadership".

Jonathan has gotten this far by virtue of the fact that he acts like a complete nincompoop.
With the way he is distrusted or mistrusted by the cabal, he might actually be the one to solve the fundamental/structural misnomers that plague Nigeria.

assuming all info of this article is true,

Now why would the northern governors not trust Jonathan. Wasn't it them along with the PDP that selected Jonathan to be Vice-President. If they didn't trust him why did they choose him in the first place.   I hope they are not saying that they don't trust him because he is a southerner. If that is the case then it shows that these northern governors and ministers are too tribalistic and that they fear the south will take away the power that they have enjoyed for decades.
I bet that when they selected Jonathan in order to appease the South-South they didn't expect the situation that they have now to come up.

Jonathan doesn't seem like a strong person to me, but still he needs to be given the power of the presidency so that we can at least see what he can do. Maybe he is a quiet leader and actually has something that resembles a vision for the country that he will follow. He was practically the only official that apologized to the Nigerian people about their failtures to deliver on what they said. All other officials throw around blame and excuses. I mean if he ends up doing as bad as Yar'Adua then there's no change from what we have been witnessing for the past 2 and half years.

I hope that all this chaos and confusion in Nigeria will be what finally helps to set the country free from the evil people that don't want the country to move forward.
