A state like Anambra should be the forerunner in IGR........Every state have areas they have a comparative advantage, what they need is a visionary leader.

A state like Anambra that is blessed with commerce and industry in addition to arable land...

A state that have the Largest market in westafrica....Nnewi
A state that have the largest automobile hub in Africa.......Nnewi...

(1) IGR from Onitsha and its metropolis..

Onitsha and its metropolis houses close to 3--4million shops, knowing fully well that most resident of Asaba do their business in Onitsha and some persons combines two to threes shop as one.

Now if the government takes loan to rebuild this markets and shops to standard...Let's do the mathematics...

Assuming re building and modelling 3 million shops.....it will not only be a commerce city but a tourist city....
If the government decides to collect 10000 every month for rent...

3 million shops × 10000 = 30 billion a month

This is just for Onitsha and its metropolis alone.

(2) IGR from Nnewi......

Nnewi and metropolis houses close to 2 million shops and automobile industries....Let's do the mathematics....

If the govt decides to rebuild and restructure the Nnewi markets and collect 10000 per month for shop rent..

2million shop × 10000 = 20 billion per month

(3) IGR from awka and metropolis....
Awka the capital city and metropolis houses close to 1 million to 1.5 million shops and blacksmith industries...this is because most people including civil servants are traders...
Let's do the mathematics..

If the govt decides to rebuild and restructure the market and blacksmith industries and collect 10000 every month

1 million shops × 10000 =10 billion.

(4) IGR from ekwulobia, ihaila, okija, aniocha and others.....this towns have close to 1 million shops combine..let's do the mathematics..

Assuming the govt build and restructure this markets..and decides to collect 10000 per month.. let's do the mathematics..

1million shops × 10000 =10 billion per Month..

Now let us add the IGR from the cities and town listed above..

Onitsha + Nnewi + Awka + Ekwulobia and others...

Anambra will generate...

30billion + 20 billion + 10 billion +10 billion = 70 billion monthly just in commerce..

And this will result to 840 billion annually...

It will generate employment.....

Assuming 100,000 persons are employed to take care of sweeping, maintaining and the controlling the affairs of this market..

If this people are paid 50,000 monthly...

ie 50,000 × 100,000 persons = 5 billion.

that means the govt makes 70billions monthly and pay 5 billion as salary and still gain 65billion.

This is just for commerce...

Industrialization through regular power supply and real agriculture can increase the IGR to 100billion monthly

You inputs are nice... But N10,000 per shop is too much for the average trader.

Anambra State's IGR drive must NOT be driven by lock-up shops buildings. It is too predictable and simplistic.

First, no massive economic growth can be achieved without critical infrastructure and security. Now that the airport is coming on stream, fix the road network and install CCTV and secure licence for power-generating plant. Set up a tight and covert proactive intelligence and security system to augment community policing and Nigerian Police.

Second, set up a high-class housing estate and world-class industrial estates in the three Senatorial zones. Then, woo hundreds of high net worth Anambra citizens to set up industries of various kinds. Anambra State IGR will catapult but a larger part of it must be re-invested into improving infrastructure to keep the productive cycle alive.

Anambra State government can make the state the hub of poultry business (broiler, chicks, eggs, feedmills, vet drug outlets, etc.) in Nigeria by encouraging young grduates to form co-opeeative societies, train and guarantee credit facilities to help them hundreds of poultry business in a particular area.

Anambra State can replicate Turkey model to become the hub clothing industry in Nigeria by encouraging local and international investors to set massive cloth-making industries in the State. Clothing is a basic needs of man.

Look, there are many things that can increase IGR other than "spare-parts" business. Even ICT can be made big. But it needs brainstorming, development of roadmap and careful implementation. Of course, the State House Assembly can pass the produced roadmap into law like Appropriation Act to maintain focus and avoid derailment by successive governments.

I’ve come to realise that state houses of assembly are useless....just a rubber stamp of the governor!

Yes, but they can be assertively independent on certain occasions that have to do money issues: legitimate allowances and illegitimate gratifications. It is a bit of political conspiracy.

Yeah, we have dwell so much on buying & selling.. Like you've suggested Anambra State need to be littered with massive industries.

One of my lecturers said that development isn't when I drive varieties of car of my choice.. But development is when I begin to produce the components of those cars.

Anambra State needs to be producing a good percentage of the commodities she consumes, not just for her self but also for her neighbors.
