Lawmakers Want Plateau Indigenes To Leave Bauchi by Sunnybobo3(m): 3:42am On Jan 30, 2010
The Bauchi State House of Assembly has recommended that indigenes of Plateau State currently resident in Bauchi be made to return to their state just as it also called for the imposition of a state of emergency in Plateau.

Tension also rose yesterday in Minna, Niger State following series of text messages being sent around about a possible clash between Muslims and Christians after the Friday prayers.

A member of the Bauchi State House of Assembly representing Tafawa Constitu-ency, Hon Aminu Tukur, disclosed the Bauchi lawmakers’ resolution to journalists late on Thursday.
Sectarian violence cropped up early this month in Jos, Plateau State, claiming over 300 lives, with hundreds of buildings destroyed. Hundreds of Bauchi State indigenes were said to have relocated home following the crisis.

The lawmaker said the State Assembly held a strong session on Wednesday where it deliberated on the Jos crisis and how it has affected the state and country at large and "recommended that natives of Plateau State should be made to return to their state. Giving reasons for the recommendation, Tukur said: "They (Plateau indigenes) are not willing to live in peace with other Nigerians. They don’t even recognise the constitution of Nigeria, which in Sections 41 and 43 says that Nigerians have the right to live in any part of the country and can own property anywhere they choose to live.”

The lawmaker claimed that there are close to fifty thousand natives of Plateau State in Bauchi. "There are about a thousand of them in the state’s civil service, mostly of Berom and Angas extraction. In Bauchi local government alone there are close to 20,000 Angas."

He said there are about 10,000 displaced people taking shelter in the state with Boto community in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area housing over 3,000 thousand.

Constitution?!!!! Wonders shall never cease! I was always of the opinion that those guys were above the law.

Are they suddenly tired of org!es of religous murders?
All sharia states should repatriate Nigerians in their states, while Nigerians should in turn, repatriate all sharia indigenes.

The Bauchi people are correct to ask the people of Plateau to leave since those murderers of Angas and Berom stock are not interested in living peacefully with Nigerians from other part of the country. The Christian extremists have been blaming the crisis on Islamic fundamentalist but there is another dimension to the conflict which the biased Christian media have not exposed. The internecine war has its root cause in the settlers and indigenes dichotomy. The Angas and Berom regarded themselves as indigenes, son of the soil, who should be entitled to all the juicy political appointments while the settlers - Hausa or others should play less dominant role in the politics of the state.  Politics has played a major role in the conflagration.
I read it in the Tribune Newspapers that Alao Akala, the Oyo State governor, has asked the people of Oyo State to come back home. Now Bauchi has joined the fray. If other states follow the stance of Oyo and Bauchi States, the problem may degenerate to civil strife across the country. And where is the president in all these to provide leadership? He has gone AWOL and is nowhere to be found.

Surely the lives of the Muslims killed in plateau must in your view be worth more than the lives of Southern Christains wasted in the North since the 1940s. All of a sudden you people now know that we have a constitution which allows us to live in all parts of Nigeria.

Finally it looks like Nigeria still has a chance to come to its senses sha!!!!

Tell me what political role the Igbo settlers who are clearly in their millions are playing in Northern enclaves like Kano, Bauchi, Borno etc

It is very unfortunate that it is now that Genocide seem to be a crime to these lawmakers.

Lawmakers indeed!

As much as I don't surpport the bloodshed, I also cannot surpport biased reasoning and actions. These Northerners really need to reason properly!!!!

Abeem,
You are clearly on your own so don't you dare try to add others to your people. Look at this person sef LOL

I don't blame the Anga and Berom jare. If you want to be given rights to do as you like in Jos then you need to extend the same rights to all non Hausa-Fulani ppl living in Bauchi, Kano, Zamfara. The Igbos, Efiks, Yoruba in Jos have respected themselves simply engage in lawful activities. They are not interested in ruling any districts despite their numerical strengths so what makes you think you are special.

I commend the Berom for defending their land fiercesly. If they give your ppl 2 yards you'll asking for 12 more so I guess they are now saying enough.

To your tents oh Nigeria.
Osule 4real.

honestly, the Hausa are tired of fighting. not because they want to quit but because they cant win again because the christians in those war tainted zones in Nigeria ve wise up and beef up security. like kaduna where i recede, the Hausa cant fight because if it happens, they will be given the bashing of their life. presently, they are the ones suing for peace
Re: Lawmakers Want Plateau Indigenes To Leave Bauchi by Abeem(m): 8:29pm On Jan 30, 2010
The history of violence between the "Indigenes" and the "Settlers" dates back to the 1940s, precisely 1945. The Berom and their counterpart in crime Angas, are scum-of-the-earth people who simply loath the idea of peaceful co-existence with other tribes. Religion may have given them added impetus to continue their notoriety in murdering innocent souls with the tacit backing of the prejudiced and biased occupant at the State House in Jos.
The Jos killings have been on the radar for too long. During the second coming of OBJ in his second term, the conflict reared its ugly head. In 2008, the conflagration was repeated. The recent carnage makes it three times in a spate of five or six years. Those who have a warped sense of human feelings and harbouring stereotypical bias against a set of people because of their creed will not be moved, no matter the extent of destruction of lives and properties. The arc of the moral universe is long but it is bent towards justice. The time for justice is now. The carnage and wanton destruction of lives and properties must be halted. This can only occur if the criminals on both sides are brought to book.
