Hundreds of youths stormed the National Assembly yesterday in solidarity with ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua who has now been out of Nigeria for 75 days.
The protesters, under the umbrella of Future Nigerian Group filed to the National Assembly to hand over their letter of intent to both the Senate president, Senator David Mark and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Dimeji Bankole.

Led by Emeka Okoroji, the group went into prayer session for the quick recovery of the president and his return to continue governing the nation.

Okoroji, while addressing the youths, said that the precarious state of polity in Nigeria occasioned by the absence of the president must not be allowed to give way to chaos in line with the scheming of the enemies of democracy.

He commended the leadership of the National Assembly for allowing constitutional processes to guide their conduct in addressing the issues being raised by the absence of President Yar’Adua, reiterating confidence that the President would return to Nigeria before long.

The street protest to show solidarity with the ailing president by members of his group, he said was a sacrifice meant to ensure that governance was held together in the absence of the President and for the interest of democracy.
Okoroji stressed that the task of keeping Nigeria together had never been the exclusive preserve of anyone but that of the generality of Nigerians.

Addressing the rally, one Kolade Akinjo told the National Assembly members to always be no guard in defence of democracy as according to him, Nigeria would outlive the present political crisis and move on to the next phase of democracy amid congenial atmosphere.
“If Mr. President is indisposed and had to leave the country for treatment, the nation owes it a duty to view his case with utmost compassion and sympathy,” he said before praying for the president’s quick recovery.

KX you are correct people forget too soon in this part of the world. If they are not careful they will also end up like their father Abacha. Well as for the Igbo why is it that any time they want to do all this their silly thing is the Igbos that they will use? This is an area the Ibos leader should sincerely look at. I rest my case

sometimes I wonder if those that claim to support Yar'Adua has ever seen a copy of the 1999 constitution and if they actually have then does it not say that the vice president is suppose to act in the absence of the president? or are they saying that the president has not been absent?

Emeka should go to Onitsha Market and start a business instead adding to the already horrible international image of Nigeria or does he think the world is not watching?

What will that solve? NOTHING.

Where was Emeka Okoroji when eminent and responsible Nigerians protested all over the world against the troubles in Nigeria few weeks ago?

Emeka Okoroji has sold his birthright for a bowl of soup.

No sane human being in the whole of Nigeria will descend so low into protesting in support of a President who does not recognise his own national responsibility - the so called President left the country in confusion.

People like Emeka Okoroji should not be allowed to walk the soil in Nigeria. He is a disgrace to Nigerian youths.

The group, Future Nigerian Group, is being used by the hopeless agents against change in Nigeria.

Yar’Adua : Youths vow to resist call for mass action

ABUJA — YOUTHS under the aegis, Future Nigeria Group, yesterday warned members of the Civil Society Organisations and opinion leaders to discard plans to embark on mass protest geared towards forcing President Umaru Yar’Adua to formally hand over  power to Vice President Goodluck Jonathan.

According to the group, which was led by a former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo, Kolade Victor Akinjo,  at a rally in support of Yar’Adua in Abuja, yesterday,  most of those calling for the exit of Yar’Adua from office are not being fair to the country, and urged the likes of  former President Olusegun Obasanjo to allow their utterances to be governed by the provision of the nation’s constitution and not their emotions.

In a letter entitled: “Symbol of our democracy should be protected” which was delivered to the National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, when the group made a stopover at the party’s national secretariat, the group warned against throwing the nation into any form of crisis.
According to them, “those masquerading under the guise of opinion leaders calling for mass actions against the system should be wary of their actions and should forthwith stop overheating the polity
