BRANDYAK: Hello, To answer your question, Before the application was made, i was already discouraged by few people who told me that a second masters will not fly because it was a similar field. In addition to this, i had what some would consider to be red flags. I have been rejected USA visa 3 times and i have tried applying for PR some years ago even though i submitted an incomplete application so it was not processed. I decided to put up a strong explanation letter. I started by talking about myself and family background and how we were all raised to contribute to our society. I mentioned my siblings professions and how they have contributed towards socio-economic development in Nigeria. I talked about how i made my own contributions ...i gave examples of how i visited orphanage homes, how i mentored individuals/friends and a attached one or two pictures of such visits. I also mentioned some awards in the past which were related to socio-economic development in my place of service (during nysc). I talked about how passionate i am about my career and because HR is the heart of any organization, it focuses on the welfare of its people. I said i have a natural disposition to want to help which is why i have chosen this career path. I also mentioned that its a bit difficult to find HRM in Nigerian universities at post graduate level hence the reason for seeking this course outside my country. I talked about various things i seek in a country where i want to study and mentioned stuff like multi-culturalism, high standard of education, peaceful setting, conducive environment for studies and i have found canada to cover all aspects. I quoted stuff from articles that may have mentioned them etc I went on to state my reasons for choosing my university in canada. I mentioned why i picked them instead of other unis and i focused on ranking in that field both in canada and worldwide and how it appears to be one of the few unis offering HRM without other course combinations like International business with HRM. I explained why i chose to do HRM as a core course and explained that the previous MSc was a major in international business. I also pointed out that my promotion in present work place is dependent on me achieving a core HRM program. I showed evidence of this with a study leave letter from my company mentioning that and they stated they were willing to accept me at the end of my study. Finally i talked about future goals which was to set up a job centre for my community as this has been a problem and that the theroretical knowledge obtained from the program would go a long way to help me accomplish that. I mentioned specific aspects of the program i would need to fulfil this. I also highlighted some social organizations i was part of in Nigeria and mentioned important social events i have attended and what i did....all pointing towards commitment to my country. I never said anything bad about Nigeria but rather how to contribute to its development. Lastly, i mentioned that i have started taking steps towards accomplishing my future plans by registering a company which can only come in full operation with the knowledge i will gain from the program. Its also important to note that i was honest with the fact that i have been rejected in USA before and i gave reason. I was also honest that i have tried to enter canada before though it was not processed. Lastly, i prayed most of the time and praised more than half of the time. I hope this will help others too. So people going for second masters especially ones in similar field ...do not be discouraged. See you all at the top 29 Likes 1 Share |

omodolapoola: If you want to continue your masters in your country, fine. But if you want to abandon Canada because of exceeded processing time, then you must have wasted your time, money and energy applying. Why did I say that? Have you seen someone that applied since last year? Yes he's here. Have you seen someone that applied and got it after 5 to 6 attempt? Them plenty hwant your type of opportunity to apply and even doesn't bother when CIC will respond? They are silently reading. Have you seen someone who prefers your exceeded processing time to they refusal they got? They are also reading. Don't get me wrong, it's not a do or die issue but when you started the processing, you felt it just really worth it. So why giving up? Nevertheless, Masters in your country is better but the comfortable standard of living compared to your current country must have been part of why you want to sojourn to Canada. Think about it. The choice is yours!! 5 Likes |

Long post alert…… PGD is for folks like me who wish to further their education but have a low GPA and can’t get into a Master’s program immediately but can eventually do after the completion of the PGD or people that are changing career. If you have a Master’s program in mind, please go for a PGD related to it. It will help later. After completing my PGD, the schools I contacted for MBA all waive some courses so far you make 75% and above. This shortens the program duration for you and saves you some money. I got my TRV in October 2014. Although I know that things have changed but am writing this for those going for PGD. I am an advocate of PGD especially if you want a career change or have a low GPA. I couldn’t get into an MBA program because of my GPA. I also had a constraint of time and didn’t want to waste time looking for schools that would take me. I was given an option of a PGD in business Administration (Global business management) which is in line with my proposed dream program; MBA with a specialization in management. I can’t remember the timeline of my application. Documents submitted. All CIC forms Sponsor (dad)- Dads Bank statement, fixed deposit statement. Shares certificates, pension statement, Dads confirmation of employment and introduction letter from the 3 universities he lectures in (visiting retired professor), affidavit of support saying that he would bear all expenses for my program and my other siblings were no longer dependent on him. My docs Conditional admission letter from school (I had a C in math and the school needed me to write a math test upon arrival before enrolling into the program) School fees receipt, (Paid full tuition of $27,000) Passport page with valid and expired visas to UK, US, Germany, France, Netherland, India etc. Letter of Introduction from employer saying that they were aware on my intended study (didn’t say anything on me having my position when I get back) and detailing my specific role and responsibilities in the company. Letter of employment (I was working as a Business Development manager for 3 years as of the time I was applying) 6 months’ pay stub Pictures of Business trips, meeting and trade show attended in Dubai and Paris Transcript, WAEC and NECO Project management training certificates (PMP) Primavera training certificates Proof of daycare enrollment for my 8 months old daughter (to show that she will be in school when I travel) Well detailed Resume 1 page SOP saying why I was going for the program. I mentioned how it will progress my career but I didn’t mention anything on coming back to Nigeria Funny enough I wrote on how my daughter would be visiting during my school holidays. Home Tie Submitted parents passport page and all my siblings birth certificates Daughter’s Birth certificate, A lot of fasting and prayers and novenas. I have a BSc in Pure and Industrial chemistry. Since I graduated in 2006, I worked for an NGO for a year and then went into the business world. Working as a business development manager, I attended trainings, meetings, trade shows which were all business related. This and my job responsibilities were what I used while writing my SOP to try and convince the VO the reason for my career change. The VO that handled my application would have noticed that I had never done anything chemistry or science related based on my resume. It was easy to deduce that I was already in a business career field. I specifically wrote on my SOP that I had the practical knowledge of business and needed to get the theoretical knowledge of it; hence my interest in going for a PGD in business administration (global business management) since I couldn’t get into an MBA cos of a low GPA. My advice to people going for a PGD is that you try to show some relation to your current job or your first degree if it’s still within a 2 year period. If its related to your first degree, then please let the VO know of the attempts you have made to get into a master’s program and couldn’t because of your low GPA. (If you have proof of emails, please attach it). The VOs know that Canadian universities are very competitive especially for folks with low GPA). If it’s related to your current job, please try and attach certificates, trainings, introduction letter from HR detailing your job responsibilities. Anything to show that your proposed study is related to your current job. You just can’t change career out of the blues. You must have tried something before developing interest in it. Good luck to everyone waiting for his or her visa. It will end in praise. 15 Likes 1 Share |

This could be useful for the exceeded processing time applicants Once you apply for GCMS notes, Importantly it has detail pertaining to “bring forward date” this is by when CIC will start next stage processing this also indicate where currently your application is located. So you can also track your applications location and understand why the application is taking so much of time, is it due to some pending documents or inquiry is pending or it’s just due to sheer volume applications received by CIC. Culled from a CIC affiliated site. 2 Likes |

Good day beautiful house with graduates full with intellectuals. I have been a silent follower. I was delayed on 17th of August due to insufficient funds. I used my uncle initially as my sponsor, but I want to reapply now though it seems my uncle is no longer interested in supporting me. So I have decided to use my immediate elder brother who has been into poultry business for the past 2years as my sponsor. He has promised to pay my first year tuition and pay extra 3m into my bank account before commencing my application. My first year tuition is 10,900CAD and my second year tuition is 6000CAD. 1) Will the VO suspect me for changing sponsor? 2) Like what kind of financial documents does he need to sample since he doesn't have CAC or salary slips. 3) He just graduated as an Agricultural Scientist 2014 and he is 2years older than myself in age. What is the advice my able friends? 1 Like |

Christopher100: Hello Chris, 1. There is nothing wrong in changing of sponsor so long the said person is truly ready to sponsor you and also show commitment. 2. Land docs, investment docs, statement of account for the last 6months, his business documents (he should try and apply for them if he doesn't have), etc 3. There's nothing wrong in that so far he is financially capable of sponsoring you. Regards. 2 Likes |

Congrats for not hearing the nay voices, but hearing your conscience and deep convictions to go for a second masters. I always tell that to people who doing career change, to go for the jugular, in essence go with their most important convictions. |
