This is crazy. I dont know what these officers thinks Nigerians are. The average police officer dont know the law they are hired to ptotect. The Immigration man cant enforce immigration laws. the custom is busy looking for bribes.

The last time i came to Nigeria, I visited with a yankee passport cos my nigeria passport was expired. so when i got to Nigeria i agot a new one. meanwhile I overtayed my visa.

At the departure hall , one mallam that calls himself an immigration officer asked me if i have a Nigerian passport, i replied yes but that its been check in with my luggages as i didnt think i needed it at this point. He told me i have broken the law and that i wont travel tonight. I just laughed and told all of them that i am not ready to go back yet and still want to be with my mom i have not seen a long time. I also told him i better start going back to Niger Delta where him as an immigration cant tell me this bull shit.

The way he looked at me and another officer. after a few minutes he stamped me out and said next time always have your naija passport on you.

The thing is most law enforcement officers are not ready to do the right thing. all they are looking for is collect bribe and more bribe.

No smoke with out FIRE. sometimes our immigration officers can extort small cash from 1st time travellers,  but to  stop you from travelling and even threatend to arrest you;  MURAT, NA YOU KNOW  how you got your connections. Search yourself, and if you're clean you don't need to worry you can approach a  very senior officer for investigations. Nevertheless,  all the officers at the Airport can not treat you bad at the same  time.

Nigerians and their cowardly nature.You got to know your right and protect it.If embassy give you visa ,who is the fricking immigration official to say your passport is virgin.all the people travelling is it not one day that they dis virgin the passport.One day i was travelling out and the immigration guy said my passport is fake .I just told him you dont know what you are saying cos i went to your office ,queued up to collect this passport and if you say its fake then its your office that issue fake passport .so what i want to advise is dont patronize touts .go to the legitimate source so you have confidence on the document you are carrying .once they shake you small so that you can drop something tell them to Bleep off.

when i travelled for the first time out of nigeria, en route to europe, with a virgin passport,
i was stopped at the immigration point,and was asked for bribe after they discovered i had  1500 dollars with me, i told them i was a student and wont offer any bribe, i was delayed until 5minutes to my flight departure, when my dad was called on his mobile phone,my dad being a rtd. senior customs officer, theatened the hell out of them, and they had to beg us to go and never to come back.

so my brother, if you are right stand on your right,they are scared of confident and bold people

Nigerian Immigration Officers at the Airports are accompanied by SSS and as a result, they receive daily manifest from various law enforcement organization around the world as to who can travel and who cant and they are categorized, a, b. c.  Almost like a "no fly" list, and some for additional questioning, by the SSS,
I know this because I have a relative that is in law enforcement and e.g if your last name shows up on the list and with just one initial, they can lock you up in eternity. First, they take you to a room on the second floor of MM Airport and eventually transported to *** where many other suspected people are held indefinitely,

Many people here are suggesting lawsuits or report to higher authorities, all I am saying is sometimes this is not possible, Just like anytime the Police wants to justify unnecessary killings, they report armed robbery,

They know that you are at their mercies when traveling,

That however does not mean immigration officials cannot harrass and intimidate you if you allow them. A custom official nearly emptied the content of my big bag at Abuja airport 3 yrs ago until I willingly gave her one of the packs of chocolate I bought for my people. Imagine the fact that I only went to claim my delayed baggage that came 5 days after I returned from UK courtesy the almighty BA. Such things happen in Naija.

this kind of airport immigration Poo. happens all over the world. i remember a few yrs ago, i was traveling from Tokyo to Sydney via Vietnam and the bloody travel agent forgot to tell me that i needed a transit visa in Vietnam (flight was stopping in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh)
in transit, the sign said clearly that it was 20$ for a transit visa but this "son of a B" immigration officer was asking me for almost 100$. as i knew it was garbage i stood to my guns and didnt want to pay until i saw that this mofo had no care in the world if i missed my plane or not. its not really about the money but knowing fully well that someone is cheating you is the painful part. after an hour of arguing even threatening to call the embassy (which they handed the phone to me) i paid 50$, 20mins before rushing through the airport to catch my onward plane.

some of these guys dont give a damn if you loose your connection/onward flight. also if your luggages stay in transit for more than 6hrs then that will give more than enough time for luggage handlers thieves to mess with your bags too!

It must have been a fake visa.

They know a fake visa/passport when the see one. If you had been less stubborn and tipped them a bit, they would have allowed you board the plane. So many people travel with fake visas, ''resemblance'', or ''planted'' visas. You will be allowed to board and try your luck at the port of entry of whichever country you are going to.

If you are lucky to go undetected and get into the country. . . . cool. If you are unlucky, you are jailed (sometimes) or immediately deported and put in the next flight back to naija where you back to the waiting arms of the immigration peeps.

Last year wen i left to SA i almost encountered such if not for GOD's mercy i culd have missed my flight and i get to realize how dump some of this officers can be and am very sure that those guys who indulge in such act have d backing of some corrupt senior officers, i got my visa direct from d embassy in ABJ and every other doc i had with me was genuine
