Whatsapp beta update for the month of August rolled out for users a couple of hours ago and even though the changelog on the download page doesn't indicate any change, something definitely changed.

It's no news that whatsapp is in many ways than one trying to be like snapchat in order to sway it's users and increase user engagement on their instant messaging application, this led to the introduction of stories better known as status, this is a portion where you can upload pictures and short clips of any kinds with whatever caption you like. This was implemented as a substitute to the native "text status" whatsapp was known for.

The "status" update brought about mixed reactions as some whatsapp users were clamoring for the former "text status" while some were more than satisfied with the new feature. With time, users got accustomed to the new status and the need to do more with it got intensed, people wanted to write texts on their stories instead of pictures/clips, this is where third party apps came into the picture.

Writing texts on status was more effective in passing across information as users no longer bother to check text status, they view your stories and it ends there. The "whatsapp August Update" fixed this by introducing an option to either use text or multimedia as your status and so far, the feature has been a bliss as it's bug free and it's so much easier to convey emotions with text and emoticons.

On the new beta update, there's also an option to swipe up to add in-app filters to your pictures and clips in the status menu.

I like the new update... but we all are still waiting for the "unsend message" feature
