France pip England as most expensive national team ever as Les Bleus valued at £1billion

The Three Lions rank second in the world with an estimated £860m with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane propping up the fees


Paul Pogba's France team is now valued at more than one billion Euros – the most expensive ever in international football.

The summer transfers of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, and the huge price tags now on Premier League targets Antoine Griezmann and Thomas Lemar, sees Didier Deschamps side worth a staggering €1.02bn (£0.94bn). And they could still only draw 0-0 with Luxemburg on Sunday night.


Gazzetta dello Sport rates England as the second most valuable national team at £860m with Dele Alli rated at £161m and Harry Kane given the price of £155m. That is more than Brazil at £767m even though Neymar cost £199m.

Manchester United smashed the world transfer record by signing Pogba for £89m but he is now not even in the top three of big deals. He might not be the most expensive player at Old Trafford next season with Griezmann valued at £130m while Liverpool and Arsenal will again fight again for Monaco's Lemar after the Gunners bid £92m for him last week.

The average age of the France team is also only 22-and-a-half years old – and only eight players are left from the 2014 World Cup squad. Griezmann, 26, is now one of the senior players.



Former France manager Raymond Domenech said: “I am not surprised but these boys are better because they play at big clubs where they learn from big players. And now, in France we concentrate on technical skills rather than physicality.”
