I would have shot down Fayose’s chopper over Ado-Ekiti –Oni

Former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, on Monday incurred the wrath of the incumbent governor, Segun Oni, for flying a plane around Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

An angry Oni said the act constitutes a security risk, describing it as the “peak of political rascality”.

But Fayose fired back, saying Oni should expect more of such “innovation”.

The governor, who spoke in Ado-Ekiti in a monthly radio and television programme, “Mr Governor Explains”, said he would have ordered the plane to be brought down by security but that he held his peace when he learnt the ex-governor was not on board.

Instead, Oni said his government had made a formal report to security agencies as well as the aviation authorities to investigate the incident.

Oni believes that nowhere in the world is any individual allowed to fly helicopter over the governor’s office, unless such person was the guest of the government.

Where it is not so, the governor fumed, it is an offence, and must be investigated.

“I can order that the helicopter be gunned down, but we know that he (Fayose) was not there, and this we believe could affect the pilot, this is why we allowed him to go,” Oni said.

He added: “since we have made reports, we are waiting for what the security operatives and the aviation authority would do over the development”.

According to him, the state government would not fold its arm and watch security of lives and property of the people being breached by an individual.

The governor, who maintained that government would do a follow-up to the reports already made, said it would also ensure that the pilot of the helicopter was brought to book.

But Fayose, in a swift reaction, called the bluff of the governor saying Oni should expect more campaigns innovation in the state.

Saying any attack on his person or political group would only make him wax stronger.

Fayose, who described Oni as a man of little mind, said if he had ordered that the chopper to be brought down as he threatened, then he (Oni) himself has become a criminal.

And just as Oni was making his complaints on Monday in Ado-Ekiti, Fayose moved his helicopter to Lagos and in what looked the grand campaign strategies by late former Premier of Western Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo, Fayose flew his helicopter over the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.

The chopper which was flew at a very low height with Labour Party (LP) flag and the ex-governor’s picture, attracted the attention of passengers, aviation workers and people passing through the Lagos Airport access road.

From your explanation, if you lack the basic knowledge about rocket science, it qualifies you as an illiterate. What type of graduates are they churving out from Nigerian universities nowadays?. Did you study Yoruba Engineering at Ago iwoye university of tribal sciences?
