All attention is shifted to the November 18 Anambra State Governorship election in Nigeria as all the political parties contesting for the seat of power have declared readiness for another change of guard.

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has endorsed and forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Tony Nwoye to represent the party in the November 18 elections after defeating close rival, Andy Uba with 2,146 votes against Uba’s 931 votes.

Investigations by AljazirahNigeria revealed that the battle has shifted to who would be selected as deputy governor to Tony Nwoye.

Sources in the APC party revealed to AljazirahNigeria that the guber candidate is set to announce his deputy, who is the spiritual leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, but the APC leadership is worried over this development, and has resolved to have a meeting with Tony Nwoye before the announcement.

This is following the incumbent governor’s support on the proscription of the activities of IPOB as a terrorist organization. It would be recalled that governor Obiano, in a statement by his commissioner for information disclosed there would be no hiding place for mischief makers and anyone seeking to disturb the peace in Anambra State.

The IPOB spiritual leader, who is also a grassroot politician, is expected to align with other spiritual leaders to get their members to support APC in the forthcoming election.

“I can confidently tell you that all plans have been concluded to anoint the spiritual father of the IPOB to deputize Nwoye.

“The rationale behind this decision is not farfetched. Governor Obiano has cowed out of the struggle to lead Igbos to the promise land (Biafra nation).

“Nwoye has assured IPOB members of speedy actualization of the Biafra struggle, hence our support for him,” the source said.



AljazirahNigeria gathered that Tony Nwoye used the two local government areas he is representing in the House of Representatives as a test case of what he is likely to do for the state if elected the governor.

Investigation further reveals that Nwoye intends to win the governorship election by garnering massive votes from IPOB members in Anambra.

Another source revealed to AljazirahNigeria that front circles in the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) as well as the Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBBIN) are working to streamline their support for Tony Nwoye.

The source, who refuse to disclose the name of the would-be deputy to Tony Nwoye, said that they all have resolved not to disclose his name until the last rituals and prayers are concluded before he will be unveiled to the good people of Anambra for support.

This effort, the source said, is based on a common view that the IPOB spiritual leader is more aligned in ideology to the political agitation of a Biafran nation.

Findings further revealed that Anambra youths are already excited that if he is voted into office, Nwoye and his deputy would lead the fight in the actualization of Biafra nation.


Considering the Party’s stronghold in the political terrain of the country, there seems to be a glimpse of hope for Nwoye, who will be hoping to use the influence and population of IPOB supporters to find his way to the seat of power come November 18th.

One thing going against Nwoye is that some stakeholders in the state see him as having the propensity for violence but that may not really deter his political ambition in Anambra.

As the world watches, the outcome of the Anambra election would go a long way, giving Nigerians an idea of what is likely to happen during the general elections in 2019.
