CATALONIA HAS ‘WON RIGHT TO STATEHOOD’

Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont says the region has won the right to statehood following Sunday’s contentious referendum which was marred by violence.
He said the door had been opened to a unilateral declaration of independence.
Hundreds of people were injured as Spanish police used force to try to block voting.
The Spanish government had pledged to stop a poll that was declared illegal by the country’s constitutional court.
Police officers prevented some people from voting, and seized ballot papers and boxes at polling stations.
“With this day of hope and suffering, the citizens of Catalonia have won the right to an independent state in the form a republic,” Mr Puigdemont said in a televised address flanked by other senior Catalan leaders.
He said the European Union could no longer “continue to look the other way”.
Earlier, as voting ended, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said Catalans had been fooled into taking part in an illegal vote. He called it a “mockery” of democracy.
Large crowds of independence supporters gathered in the centre of the regional capital Barcelona on Sunday evening, cheering and waving Catalan flags.
The Catalan government said more than 800 people had been injured in clashes across the region.
The Spanish interior ministry said 12 police officers had been hurt and three people arrested. It added that 92 polling stations had been closed.

You can't bold titles. The big issue to consider with this unilateral move is fact they won't be allowed to join EU.

A great video you guys might like on this issue.

I thought titles are already bolded.

This brings to two referendums in past week.
Kurds had their successful referendum on Sept 25th. Catalona had theirs on Oct 1st.

Waiting to see who is next....

Wailing for wailing sake. You don't need to be consistent when your aim is to complain for its own sake. His likely response will be that's biafraland. Then point to other plants outside of SS and SE.

My problem is not that you engaged your thinking faculty before posting this stupid reply, my problem is that this nonsense is the best reply your brain could come up with.

Make una come see potopoto intelligence. Typical Maradona, barefaced liar, shameless turncoat.

Abeg see trash a move declared by the court as illegal, this people will just have sympathy for their dehumanization. Visça Catalunya the road to freedom is rough even though you can never be free in the yrue sense of the word that is why ur passports are numbered. No country will allow the balkanization of her territory, secession is tantamount to breach of territorial integrity. Like my brothers here will say Spain is unity begging

independence is different from independence!
there is an independence that means you are free to be a sovereign state!there is another independence that means you are deceiving yourself because you don't have independence at all(that is you are carry a basketful of sea water).
I would advise you to read up Spain constitution very well.Catalonia only had autonomy not sovereignty to become a state. There is only one state that's covers all of Spain and it is enshrined in its constitution.
it is from the central government that Catalan approach govt and received its powers to be a regional government so where is it in the Spanish constitution that it has received legal power to initiate, call for referendum and to declare secession.
can you now see the absolute madness!
the Catalan politicians on seeing that there is trouble now within 2,3 weeks from behind passed a fraudulent bill in the region which has no backing from Spain central constitution!
okay!central govt goes to court up to their supreme court and the ruling was for the referendum of hold at least let the Catalan prove their case.
Catalan politicians refused to prove anything because they know it is illegal and went ahead
their is no way that the Catalan politicians can declare anything as far as the issue is concerned.it is just like the Kurds in Iraq the Catalan politicians have put its people on 2 inches of cold ice in the middle of the sahara desert (nothing).

Spain will lose majorly if Catalonia breaks off. You can't blame them for quoting violence and law-break. If they could resort to such desperate measures to ensure they don't lose a major income factor, what about a lawless democratic infant like Nigeria?

Spain thrives largely on Catalonia, which generates more revenue than even the capital city. When compared to Spain as a country, their GDP per capita generously dwarfs that of Spain.

Can you claim once and for all, that Catalonia requesting independence is a recent thing, as they had never in their existence being an entity independent of Spain/Spaniards?
