erico2k2:In Deuteronomy 22: 24-25, God instructs how to exchange our tithes. He gave the Isrealites permission to exchange their tithe for "Silver" ( which represents money). if you want to pay your tithe in materials, as long as it is worth one tenth of your income. it's a tithe. Deu 22: 24-25 But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD your God will choose. If you are a coconut seller and you want to bring one tenth of your income which maybe 2 coconuts, get the money value and bring it to the house of God. |

Yureyes:WHy did God say this, did you not also see the reason for that?or you chose to turn a blind eye to it as well? This was directed to those who lived far from the Store house and the place the Lord has chosen. This eliminates the fact that there was Money then even though tithe was no equated to Money.Tithe was not Money during them times. I cant believe you gave such narrative in your last paragraph even after seeing this But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the LORD your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the LORD will choose to put his Name is so far away), then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the LORD Dont this mean if the place is not far bring your tithe the way they are |

Lsofdk: According to the verse, you are to take your tithe to the place God chooses to put His name which is His house and not to give it to the poor. Seems you don't understand the verses yourself |

Candyrain: It was not addressed to you or even to the whole nation of Israel. It was addressed to the Levitical tribe whose duty it was to bring a tenth of tithes it collects from the farming communities into the storehouse, not the house of God. A tenth of the tithe is 1% 1 Like |

Azam101: It is a nice act but remember that obedience is better than sacrifice. Did the bible state that your TITHE be given to the poor? |
Re: I Just Gave My Tithe To A Beggar. Was I Wrong? by Nobody: 2:23pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
Again from my understanding of the bible, God chose the people of Levite to be his priests to serve in his house and if we all agree our tithes should be given to the Levites, I don't know why we the fuss about paying our tithes in the house of God where the pastor(priest) is the servant of God. The bible is clear about tithe, you should follow God's commandment. |

Student125: Get one thing straight ...where God is concerned, logic goes out the window. That rain that falls from the sky to d earth will fall from the earth to the sky. As for being a child still, God loves kids so I'm covered. God talks you know, but angels carry his message to man. First day I heard one of them talk was in dead of the night. Could not sleep that night and was sitting alone in a dark room. The voice the life out of me, taught it was one of the 3 people asleep in the room but no it wasn't...it my head, the voice sounded like it was right in there...loud and clear as a speak yet no one else ever hears just me. But, hey! My words to you are based entirely on your first quote of me asking if a tithe was bribe to God. My analysis of your mind set was of a matured already set deep in his belief long enough for God to reach a final decision abt him. The way u talk is dangerous for you. very. |

Honour2: Again, I never asked anybody to disobey God, only asked you to read your bible and make meanings from it. I bet I wasn't the author of any of the books in the bible. Again, ensure you read your bible and gain understanding, instead of relying solely on the teachings of man without asking for divine understanding 1 Like |

erico2k2:I have seen a car dealer who tithed with a car worth the one-tenth of his profit. I am not saying tithe must be money but it can be money. If you sell tomatoes and you think 2 baskets are worth one tenth of your profit and you want to bring them to the house of God? then fine. it's between you an your creator. But mind you, the purpose of your tithe is to propagate God's work and if your substance can't do that, then why give it as tithe? |

Candyrain:It doesn't say give to anyone. What to do with your tithe is cleary stated there irrespective of what you're bringing(cash or food harvest). I'm only trying to point out to you that if the op is owing you might also be owing going by what is written in the Bible. |
Re: I Just Gave My Tithe To A Beggar. Was I Wrong? by einsteine(m): 2:35pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
You are wrong. What you did is an act of charity not tithe. Should you choose to pay tithe, do it at your church. Otherwise, just don't pay. |

There is nothing wrong with what you have done, that is if only the tithe money is what you have with you at that moment. The Holy Spirit directs us on what to do at a giving time and situations. If you have more money on you that very day and you decide to give God's money to a beggar without the leading of the Holy Spirit then you have done the wrong thing. The flesh profiteth nothing. Yureyes:Exactly, in the 1st instance tithe was never money, if not the issue of it the chosen place was to far sell your tithe, cos Im sure you can agree with me, you cant sell money even if its 2 heavy. Like I have been saying, you need to speak to a Levite to understand tithing, they are still very much alive as we speak! |

[quote author=mdokaba1 post=61202480]It was a very stressful week for me as it involved lots of travels and all. So its a Saturday and I was paid for a project I did for the month past. Going by my tired nature, I knew deep down me that there was no way I could have made it to church the next day and I was hell bent on paying my tithe because of the inherent blessings therein and the last thing on my mind would be to give it to my nebor to pay it for me. (The guy broke and besides I didn't want him to start calculating my take-home (Na sharp man). And I knew deep down that if I keep the money till the next time I would be in church, I was sure I would spend it. (God have mercy on me sha) So I decided even before getting home to package my tithe and while in the market on a shopping spree I package my tithe and dropped it in the plate of an old beggar. (A mulsim beggar precisely) Instantly, I saw 50 shades of shocks on her face as she looked at me for a few seconds and I could read her facials more like "For this Buharia?" Lols. And before I disappeared into the crowd, I could see/read her lips mutter prayers pointing towards me. And deep down, I felt blessed and fulfilled. But was I wrong to have given my 10percent to a beggar instead of to the alter? Opinions please. Though you try, but what God ask us to do is to bring it to the ALTER pls |
Re: I Just Gave My Tithe To A Beggar. Was I Wrong? by lipsz(m): 2:45pm On Oct 08, 2017 |
It's clearly stated in Malachi. Well, the act wasn't wrong, but you just disobeyed a simple principle. Your 10% isn't meant for the beggar, neither is it meant for your pastor, it's meant for the house of God... If your Pastor decides to spend it for personal use, that's his own business, he'll face the wrath of God in due time... Your conscience didn't prick you cos you were ignorant of the proper way of getting it done. As for the scripture backing your action, go back and read between lines.... It never mentioned tithe. Your tithe is not a gift that you can just give to anyone you feel like giving But you'll still be blessed for that act tho. May God help your understanding of His Word. |

An2elect2:The gospel can be propagated in different ways you need money for some and some do not need money. For example airing a gospel programme, printing tracts, having a crusade or gospel choir concert etc are ways of spreading the gospel and money is needed for all of these. No one is going to come to ask for money for all of these but tithes and offerings layed down by obedient children of God are used. Giving tithe is one of the ways of attracting God's blessings and protection upon our lives same as giving to the poor and needy. Tithes should be paid in the church. One should not pay tithes and think he's giving to the poor or give to the poor thinking he's giving tithes. I understand you think tithing is a waste but you should try it and see if God will not open the windows of of heaven and pour out a blessing upon you that there shall not be room enough to receive it |
