We thank God for the boy's safety.

Thank God the boy MIRACLE was miraculously found. I wonder why the father would have the approval of his pastor before commenting on the lost child (some people worship their pastor and not their God).

What I really want to know is what the police did to the headmaster and proprietress that were detained after the boy was found.

It is good the little poor but stubborn boy was found. Stubborn because I am sure his parents would have continously warned him on several occassions not to go out of school compound or follow stranger, anyway I did worse while at his age.
At least the parent have been spared the agony and grieve of loss and uncertainty.

As concerning the issue of Lions, I can categorically comfirm that we still have few of this beast in the wilds of the country called Nigeria (please note that I am not contesting this on the basis of reference or source) I have encountered some of them in the recent past personally based on my recent research. Remember we have game reserves like Yankari, Oyo and Borgu in Nigeria.
The best appearance of this fast extinct animals can however be luckily witnessed in the Borgu games reserve which stretches from the extreme end of the Oke Ogun axis through Moukwa - Kainji towards the Gufanti remote area of the country (Just at the boundary line between Nigeria , Benin and Niger) You may understand better with the diagram attached.

There so many unpublished forestry information to butress this fact and that's why I won't refer but rather call your awareness to information. However to confirm that of the calabar forest I rest my case.

asha 80:

There are no lions in southern nigeria forests let alone the thick forests in calabar. There is also an igbo word for lions but lions never existed there.I am sure what the meant to write was leopards.

It would surprise you folks to know that an almost extinct kind of gorilla exist in calabar and as a matter of fact it is called the cross river gorilla it exists in the only surviving rain forest in nigeria which is found in calabar. you can google it up

truly u are truly a joker!!!!

all im saying is people onli describe what they see!

there wont be a word for it if we didnt have it

dont get me wrong- kiniun- might not actually mean lion

but just be used for the purpose-it might mean leaopord or warreva big cat!!

all inno is there are kiniuns in nigeria otherwise we wont have a word for it!

simple logic taught in history!

I do not not doubt the gorilla you are talking about as gorillas typically exist in tropical rainforests.I do not also doubt leopards as shown by my post you quoted because leopards also exists in tropical rainforest(in fact they thrive here because of their affinity to trees) but lions in thick tropical forests found in cross river stateĀ  I doubt it as lions exists only in savanna areas.

Re: Missing Boy Found After Seven Days In The Forest by Blazing99: 2:11pm On Mar 15, 2010
Thank God the kid was found unscathed. Only God's grace must have preserved him from the wild animals and perils of the wild.

We should not take other people as dumb. The hunter sure knows what a lion is and has probably seen one before that is why he made that comment. Lions for fact stay in games reserves like the Yankari in the country. I doubt if everyone has an idea of what goes on in the wild, but i have heard from people who have trolled into the deepest forests of western Nigeria and testified to have seen lions.

@ayettymama
It would have been much more useful if you read my post
I responded to Asha80's post that lions do not exist in Southern Nigeria
And you later posted to confirm what I was saying about "seeing is basis of naming"

The only part of your post I commented on is about Yoruba not being updated
I mentioned those words because I found that I had to go and ask people the meaning of some new words

However since you mentioned it, "Kiniun" cannot be a leopard becauseit has it own name: "Amotekun"
Of course the real "Ekun" is Tiger

What was he looking for that he got lost?
Why not follow others back to school after drinking water?

Anyway, thank God he was later found.

Akampa is a settlement on its own. It is not even in any LGA/LCDA around Calabar. Just like the Obudu cattle ranch is not Obudu town or LGA but in Obanliku. Just thought to inform the house. spent a considerable time in the state on several projects.

This must be a miracle
Re: Missing Boy Found After Seven Days In The Forest by Romeo4real(m): 10:11pm On May 03, 2010
The only problem with this story is that Lions dont live in rainforests or jungles. Lions typically inhabit grassy plains and savannah land. There were Lions in Nigeria at some point in time, but they were in the Northern part of Nigeria - in the savanna belt that extends from Niger and Mali.

In fact, thousands of years ago, Lions were common throughout southern Europe, southern Asia, Eastern and Central India and over the whole of the African continent.
