Police officers have impounded a plastic penis after a car driver under the influence of drugs tried to use it to cheat on a urine test.

The remarkable incident happened on Wednesday in Kaiserslautern, a city in the South-Western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

Police officers spotted a 26-year-old man using his mobile phone while he was driving.

When the cops pulled the man over, they noticed him behaving oddly and realised he might be under the influence of drugs.

They took the man for a drugs test to a police station where he was told to give a urine sample, under police supervision.

The officer became suspicious when he saw that the urine sample was unusually clear and odourless.

When investigated, it turned out that the man was wearing a strap-on plastic penis filled with water as he tried to fool the cops.

When confronted with his cheating, the driver admitted having consumed cannabis and amphetamines.

Police officers decided to take a blood test to confirm the man's confession and launched preliminary proceedings.

The penis-wearing offender, who has not been named, is not he first to try and cheat a drugs test, using such a method.
But such an elaborate cheat may not be possible in the future.

Last month it was revealed that a new fingertip test will be able to show if someone has taken cocaine.

In recent trials, researchers at the University of Surrey were able to detect whether the drug has been taken up to 24 hours later due to tell-tale chemical traces that remain on fingers even after washing them.

It proved 99% effective at detecting cocaine use among patients in trials.

The incident isn't the first time a dummy dong has been used to try to fool a drug test.
