I am a freshman at Futminna dept. of building. I am thinking of starting practical works right from my first year so by the time am through with my university education I would be so good at it. The plan is to start this industrial training with a construction company, though I will be available only during semester holidays, the problem now is that I don't know if any construction firm will take me in,now as a 100l student and through to my graduation year just working with them as their student/apprentice.. what do u guys think? |

Adedayo13: I am a graduate of Building from OAU Ile-ife, graduated over 2 years ago and a registered member of NIOB. Please i need a help for employment into construction firm. My advice for you is to Look out for local contractors in your area and tell them what you can do, then start out as a General foreman, The look out for bigger contractors. And talk to Individuals so that you can be Getting your own contract. Try and Make friends with proffesionals in the construction Industry especially Architects.... Frm there you can take up small jobs then Expand. Also you can start looking out for Job adverts that requires Builders, If you are sure of your skill, then Apply for one. And keep applying till you see one. Try and Gain experience as you start working, Get used to the processes, and try establishing yourself as a contractor. GoodLuck |

csteve: Quantity Surveyors in the House, Please when Taking off a four storey building, Hw should one take-off for the Columns, Floor by floor? Or run it through frm Ground floor to last floor? Thanks! It depends on the peculiarity of the case. If the storeys are identical you may do for the ground floor only and multiply (by 4) to cater for the rest. If it is not identical, you may do it altogether(for amateur) but for clarity and accurate professional skill you should take it a floor after the other. I hope this will help you. |
