Msuaza, I'm sorry but these sources are un reliable. I do not believe the army is adequately equipped, but by far the army is not ill-equipped or poorly equipped. It does not lack training as it continues to under rigorous counter terrorism training at both jaji, kantagora and kachai training facilities. terrorism Turkey- over 30yrs Indonesia- over 15 yrs USA - 1993-2012 United kingdom- 27yrs (northern island) So have these countries defeated terrorism? Last year the american ambassador was murdered in libya. So we can say that they aforementioned countries have failed woefully in defeating terrorism, just like the article claims, is the case with nigeria. Nigeria forces have been battling terrorism for 2yrs and I can, every nigerian can attest to the fact that the army has gotten a grip on boko haram. Terrorism which the army had never dealth with before. They have been able to curtail excesses, and radically develop techniques unique to nigeria to deal with this problem. Look at the SSS, they have killed more terrorist and arrested more than the over hyped indonesian detachment 88( which receives american financial aid, military aid and seal training). |

i would like to add to the point that SA has not sold any wepaons to other countries. This is wrong. The G5 and G6 have been sold to many arab countries The ratal was sold to Jordon and some where in libya used by the rebels. MRAPs all MRAPs wether built by SA or not use SA tech and we get money thanks to liecening it. MGL the 6 shot is used by a feew countries The yanks are a big buyer. umkonto Navel SAM is used in finland and sweeded. Algeria may buy it to. A darter is joint developed with brazil. NTW 20 are in indian servis. Germain subs use some of our techs. Euro fighter uses a South African HUD extra extra |

Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by Msauza(m): 3:40pm On Jan 25, 2013 |
There is a huge difference between the equipments and riffles. In essence equipments and logistical support are far more bigger than what you have just shown now and translates to billions of dollars to acquire. Do you know how many of South African military equipments are in Burundi, Congo and Sudan and are no longer in our inventory, but that of UN amount to billions of dollars? |

andrewza: no and yes. The wepoans i dont care about(has in i dont care) but they look like they short on ammo. And the last one is not a army solder. How can they be short on ammo. When the 7.62 round is made in nigeria. The guys carry extra rounds, the last guy is SSS. They are never short on ammo. |

Henry120: A typical nigerian soldeir battling terrorism up north. Do they look ill-equipped to battle terrorism. Yes, they do not have night vision brackets on their helmets, thus meaning they are not given night vision goggles. They're carrying crappy Ak's, no side arm, and that's just for starters. |

What kind of tanks does Nigeria have in their inventory? I can honestly say that I've never seen a Nigerian tank before? |
Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by andrewza: 4:37pm On Jan 25, 2013 |
Blyss: depending on the uniform you may not see a side arm. NV gear is not all ways part of a helmet set up. |

Just look how South African-made arms fascinated Chinese to the extent that they even wanted to copy them. http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/showthread.php?154657-China-attempts-to-copy-South-African-weapons-now |

andrewza: Humm, interesting. Like you've stated, nothing spectacular, definitely time for an upgrade. As Jihadist insurgencies increase over time within the West African region, Nigeria will have to eventually stop being so cheap, and actually go ahead and put forth the money to start purchasing some more modern weaponry from the US or Russia, and begin putting more effort into developing their own weapons. There's no reason Nigeria shouldn't be able to develop their own tanks, and if they are already talking about attempting to develop their own satellite and delivery rocket, why is there no plan to first start developing their own jets in who's technology coincides with that of rocket development? Start small and build your way up is the best policy for any serious nation whom wants to self develop themselves. |

SA equipment is significantly better than that of Nigeria, I cant speak on the training though.. since I really don't know much about the current SA military's effectiveness in battle. |

Msauza: There is a huge difference between the equipments and riffles. In essence equipments and logistical support are far more bigger than what you have just shown now and translates to billions of dollars to acquire. You are correct, equipments cost billions of dollars, I cannot place our defence procurement on the internet, however if you look hard you might see it here. A lot of bomb equipment, scanners, jammers, tracker and satellite technology have either been bought or developed. Are the enough, no, can we do more yes, but have these equipments been purchased, including logistics vehicle, command and control and a situation room. Yes. There are more which I cannot paste here, because they are classified information. |
