From available Literacy rates:

Nigeria: 61% of total population (about 104,210,000 literate people)
SA: 86.4% of total population (about 43,000,000 literate people)

Point is ... Nigeria has two and a half times more literate people than South Africa! And going by SA's definition of a Pass mark (33%), it is apparent that the quality of your literate population is a massive sham!

No doubt you are being your very deluded self. It's your right!! grin grin

Then go to crime stats and do the same analysis. Again, our 33% pass mark will score exactly 100% in Nigerias system. Our exams and level of teaching is not the same, South Africas level of education is on par with that of first world countries since we have many Americans and Europeans schooling in SA.

It's funny - I've been saying again and again that they all remind me of Okonkwo from "Things Fall Apart". And false pride and "saving face" is exactly the reason for that.

But what I find most amusing is when they think that they've said something really smart and they've "got you". You take one look at it and realise what you're dealing with: Naai-gerians who have their own warped sense of the world, who take pride in the most kindergarten of things.

INDIA have adopted 33% pass mark system but have far greater brains than Nigerians. I quote from the source:

The qualifying marks in each subject of external examination shall be 33% . However at Senior School Certificate Examination,in a subject involving practical work, a candidate must obtain 33% marks in the theory and 33% marks in the practical separately in addition to 33% marks in aggregate, in order to qualify in that subject.

Only a numbskull 33% brain like you will conclude that India's rating system is equivalent to SA's 33% pass! Moreover India is in a trial phase just so that the word fail is eradicated from scoresheets. Pay attention to the variables of India's system and note that it is not the same as your blanket system where an abysmal 33% is a pass!! In India 33% is not an absolute qualifying grade for promotion! grin grin

===========================================

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced grading for Class X from 2010. Board examinations will finally come without the pass or fail tag for students.

The nine-point scale grading system will require students to get qualifying grades in four of the five subjects to get promoted to the next level. It has been decided not to carry pass or fail on the mark sheets of students. Students will have four options to improve on their grades within a period of two years from their exam.

The grading system will adopt a five-point scale, which means awarding students grades from A to E. This will eliminate the schools from showing raw scores on the evaluation report of each student.

The new grading system is based on two parameters - absolute and percentile marks. There is a uniform model to be followed in assessing all subjects. But the parameters are different for different subjects depending upon the difficulty level. For example, A star grade would signify 9 points for Maths, while the same would signify 7 points for English.

Under the new grading system there will be subject-wise grades, no cumulative grade will be awarded, as our mark sheets do not carry the total marks at present. The last grade will be the un-qualifying grade and this will decide whether the candidate has passed the exam or failed it.''

Gradually the word 'fail' would be abolished once this system is successfully implemented. This would reduce stress on students. "But we may have to wait for some more years before completely abolishing fail from Boards.

Summative Assessment Based on the term-end examination

There will be two evaluations each in the first and second terms.
Each evaluation will carry 10 marks apiece.

Formative Assessment To evaluate and grade class work, homework, assignment and project work

There will be one term-end exam for each term.
The first term-end exam will carry 20 marks.
The second term-end exam will carry 40 marks.

Evaluation

Students of class IX and X will be evaluated on a 9-point grading system. Each grade, given on the basis of both formative and summative assessments, will correspond to a range of marks.

The nine point grading scale for measuring Scholastic achievements is reproduced below: -

Marks Range

Grade Grade point

91-100 A1 10.0

81-90 A2 9.0

71-80 B1 8.0

61-70 B2 7.0

51-60 C1 6.0

41-50 C2 5.0

33-40 D 4.0

21-32 E1 C

00-20 E2 C

Points to Remember

(i) Assessment of theory/practical papers in external subjects shall be in numerical scores. In addition to numerical scores, the Board shall indicate grades in the marks sheets issued to the candidates in case of subjects of external examinations. In case of internal assessment subjects, only grades shall be shown.

(ii) Subjects of internal examination in Class X the assessment shall be made on a five point scale I.e. A,B,C,D & E.

(iii) The grades shall be derived from scores in case of subjects of external examination. In case of subjects of internal assessment, they shall be awarded by the schools.

(iv) The qualifying marks in each subject of external examination shall be 33% . However at Senior School Certificate Examination,in a subject involving practical work, a candidate must obtain 33% marks in the theory and 33% marks in the practical separately in addition to 33% marks in aggregate, in order to qualify in that subject.

(v) For awarding the grades, the Board shall put all the passed students in a rank order and will award grades as follows :

A1 : Top 1/8th of the passed candidates
A2 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
B1 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
B2 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
C1 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
C2 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
D1 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates
D2 : Next 1/8th of the passed candidates

E : Failed candidates

Important Points

(a) In case of a tie, all the students getting the same score, will get the same grade. If the number of students at a score point need to be divided into two segments, the smaller segment will go with the larger.

(b) Method of grading will be used in subjects where the number of candidates who have passed is more than 500.

(c) In respect of subjects where total number of candidates passing in a subject is less than 500, the grading would be adopted on the pattern of grading and distribution in other similar subjects.

Again, even with Nigeria's high population there are far more literate Nigerians than South Africa can ever aspire to educate in several decades! Nigeria's 61% rate is easily 300% the number in SA (put at 86%) ... hence, an upwardly mobile workforce, a highly competitive economic outlook and lots of room for local knowledge and skills development in Nigeria. The bottom line is 33% pass mark or should I say qualifying mark which is clearly the same thing. Same practice in Japan, China, India, Canada, Italy, etc only US and UK is 40%. I quote from the source:

http://www.army.mil/article/107990/U_S__Army_Africa__South_African_partners_kick_off_Exercise_Shared_Accord_13/

PORT ELIZABETH, Republic of South Africa (July 25, 2013) -- Approximately 700 U.S. and 3,000 South African Defense Force service members gathered here for the opening ceremony of Exercise Shared Accord 13, July 24.

This is the second exercise of its type between these two countries and is the result of bilateral discussions that originated in 2009, and were approved in 2010.

"This particular exercise is aimed at specifically providing collective training for the United States and the South African National Defense Force while building interoperability and mutual understanding between the two armed forces," said South African Maj. Gen. Ephraim Phako, deputy chief of Joint Operations.

The senior U.S. officer on the ground said he hoped the exercise would enable his forces to better themselves and learn new ways of doing things by watching their counterparts.

"We are here also to learn how [South Africans] conduct their day-to-day operations, airborne operations and peacekeeping operations and in turn show them how we conduct those same operations," said Brig. Gen. Peter L. Corey, deputy commander of U.S. Army Africa. "We will improve our own skills by training with them in a different environment."

Shared Accord 13 is a U.S. Army Africa-executed exercise. The multilateral training exercise includes a live-fire operation, airborne and dismounted infantry tactics, a maritime amphibious assault, peacekeeping operations and disaster response. In addition, a humanitarian civic assistance project is scheduled which will provide primary medical, veterinary and optometry assistance to the local population.

"The exercise will include training in peacekeeping operations and joining with sister services to conduct humanitarian aid in the form of local medical, dental and veterinary clinics," said Phako, adding that more than 10,000 pairs of eyeglasses are planned to be distributed.

Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, will be making-up the bulk of U.S. forces involved in the exercise. They will be joined by service members with 82nd Airborne Division, 10th Special Forces Group, 2nd Marine Division, 4th Marine Division, District of Columbia Army National Guard, Rhode Island Air National Guard, New York Army National Guard, 3rd Infantry Division, 1st Medical Command and 1172nd Movement Control Team.

The ultimate goal is to build lasting relationships and increase professional capacity of armed forces from both countries.

"It is my wish that Exercise Shared Accord 13 will set a sterling example for future cooperation and peace support missions between the armed forces of our two countries," said Phako.

Exercise Shared Accord is scheduled to run through Aug. 5. All U.S. units will return to their home bases at the conclusion of the exercise.

Jealousy is what makes you to reject the stats. Those stats were taken from a reliable source. I wonder if you even believe what has been written in your constitution of 1999. During apartheid there were schools in South Africa and the only difference was that they were separated on racial lines. Blacks could not attend white schools or Indian schools. Education system was so fragmented in such that every race had their own school.

Yes. I suppose that's why your newly appointed MTN Naai-geria CEO says "yes baas" to a South African black, Sifiso Dabengwa.

for every 10 south Africans that gets a job in Nigeria, about 1,000 south African illiterates have lost a job to an educated and skilled Nigerian worker .

86% literacy and south Africa is begging medical doctors from tiny Cuba to come help and take over south African hospitals and also Nigerian doctors in hundreds have opened new private medical clinics in south African and now employ illiterate south Africans as floor cleaners.

South Africa's beautiful ladies are running after Nigerian educated and skilled men who have jobs and our Naija boys are s.crewing their ladies from both 'front and back' position on a daily basis as wives or 'experimetal objects' while the lazy and illiterate south African men are as helpless as I.mpotent morons watching while Nigerian men S.uck the 'cow milk' out of their fine women grin grin

I don't believe that south African literacy figure they post here.

About 90% of the pre-apartheid era blacks are illiterates shut out of the educational system by their racist white boer and Anglo masters .

literacy in south Africa simply means being able to write and spell your father's name. You get counted among the national figure of 86% literacy grin grin.

Bros ... I share the same belief as you'll find in my comment below:

GidiNaijaPikin:

Again, even with Nigeria's high population there are far more literate Nigerians than South Africa can ever aspire to educate in several decades! Nigeria's 61% rate is easily 300% the number in SA (put at 86%) ... hence, an upwardly mobile workforce, a highly competitive economic outlook and lots of room for local knowledge and skills development in Nigeria. Point is ... your literate population is grossly overstated especially when you have 33% as a pass mark grin grin. And there'll never be an end to Nigeria's so called illiterates taking your jobs and educating you all! grin grin

Like I have always said, they just can't get above their current low mental capacities. I have information to prove so much, but it's not worth all the time and personal risks. While 33% remains a big fail in Nigeria, there's no doubt that it will continue to be the greatest achievement for their South African lot!

Tell me how did you manage to pass your MBA if your research is this poor. I say again, during Apartheid there were missionary schools where our grandfathers and grannies were educated.
