to the apple fan boys (OP in particular), just take a look at the issue some of the users are complaining about already.

@ OP, how can u even classify this as a computer?  something with a mere 16GB (the $499 one) of HD space compared to the least functioning netbook that has at 120GB HD space, na hin i wan waste money on?  abegi jo!

i've said it before and i'll say it again: apple's products are ridiculously over-priced!

You must be very dull, to refer me to a dictionary. You claim to have tested the iPad. I have one here. Tell me one single app a graphic artist can use on it, or according to you "A SPECIALIST IN ANIMATRONICS".

There are at least 5 painting applications on the iPad on the appstore currently. Some examples below

Brushes

Sketchbook Pro

Artstudio

See?

If you have you will know that there is nothing the people you have listed will want to use it for apart from play.

Many people will use it as a web browser. That doesn't qualify as 'play'.
Many people will use it as an e-book reader. That's education, not 'play'
Many people will use it as a platform for many apps they need. Medical apps, Engineering apps, Banking applications - a whole lot!

Many will use it as a means for video entertainment. Free Netflix streaming, CBS and ABC video. Cheap TV shows. The works!

Many people work very hard for a living. So why grudge them if they take 'play' seriously?

FUnny thing for me is that 50% of the people who tease me for planning to spend $499 on an iPad spend around 20k a weekend drinking alcohol. Go figure.

to each his own poison cheesy

nazzyon:

I believe it is still under development and series of packages will soon be out there in the market for users to buy.

Students, Kids, Graphic Artists, Cartoonist, Specialist in Animatronics, Architects are few amongst the kinds of users that will appreciate the work of the iPad.

i think there may be a disconnect

i cannot see people doing PROFESSIONAL commercial work on the ipad, which is what nazzyon is asserting

he may be able to get away with graphics artists - but architects and 'animatronics specialists'

the first thing graphics maestros look for is the biggest screen real estate they can afford.
then a high powered video card

if this were a thread celebrating the ipad, np, but lekside had to come again with offtanget - i'm an ipad and i'm a pc

developers are been attracted in developing app for ipad because of its wide spread. if these are widely now available, then you may not be missing out from the next generation of computer architecture

You very well know that these are iphone apps, modified or not the ipad will be the least of devices a "A SPECIALIST IN ANIMATRONICS" will want to use.

True talk, To the abilities and limitations of which it can serve

Well, no one dictates to anyone as to how they shd spend their hard end cash. It's up to the individual. As to those that spend 20k on liquor, you nust have been at the joint(s) to know what's happening there. grin

No. They are iPad apps. UI designed for the bigger screen.

Hopefully many more manufacturers will introduce their products soon.

Can't wait to see what will happen with all these Ultraslims coming to the market.

More people will join the leagues of people using touch screen devices for studying.

Well, these applications were originally designed for the iphone and modified for the ipad, a look at the itunes store below confirms that
The requirements are the same and functions basically the same.
For brushes, sketchbook pro and artstudio of the same version, the apple store states

"Requirements: Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. Requires iPhone OS 2.1 or later".

There are versions for the iPhone and iPod touch. But the iPad versions are a whole new app on a whole other level.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by Luxzy(m): 12:54am On Apr 09, 2010
Ipad is nothing, its just a bigger version of the iTouch and iPhone(without the call and SMS messaging functions).it is a big waste of money. Nothing spectacular about it.just a waste,

Well, i'm yet to get an ipad for myself (waiting for next version), ipad and iphone run the same os, and steve had announced earlier before the launch that 150,000 iphone applications will automatically run on the ipad, i dont know what we're dragging here.

Its good to know that multitasking will be an added feature later this fall, these guys surely know what they're doing (marketing strategy), i'll surely wait till then.

I don't know if the iPad is 'ideal' yet but it sure rocks my boat on second thoughts.
Re: Ipad: My Ideal Computer by oludy: 10:36pm On May 11, 2011
Texazzpete, lekside44, and Apple were spot on. Where are all the other guys? Time is the true test of every product.
It turned out the iPad sent net books packing and cut deeply in PC sales.
Where is the slate from MS? Every company now wants to make an iPad killer.
Apple has turned the table over MS and Google in profits and revenue.
And now we have the ipad2. It's dual core and faster than the fastest supercomputer of the 80's.
Give it time and it will completely replace a PC. I hardly use my Mac/PC these days. I have everything on my iPad except when I need to do some advanced geeky stuffs.

true talk. microsoft itself is worried that people are getting used to ios operating system and may find no need for pc/windows computer. remember in those days, people are ibm crazy. but today, how many people even remembers ibm when they are shopping for their pc?
