A rift is currently brewing between the Nigeria Football Federation and the Super Eagles over planned deductions in the team’s World Cup allowances, which if not resolved may affect the performance of the team in South Africa.

The infraction follows the declaration by the NFF that players’ allowances during the World Cup will be deducted to provide for taxes to be paid to the authorities.

Peoples Daily Sports learnt from sources within the Glasshouse, that the football body is acting on a recent directive from FIFA which wanted allowances of players during the World Cup in South Africa to be taxed.

But the Eagles were expectedly not in favour of such move and have warned that nobody should touch their World Cup allowances. They were said to have also told the NFF management to look for alternative means of raising money to settle FIFA.

New Eagles Technical Adviser, Lars Lagerback may have to quickly wade into the infraction and settle frayed nerves before it blew into a storm, as money issues have on several occasions caused imbroglio between the Glasshouse and the Eagles to the extent of affecting the performance of the team in such competitions.

Our reporter further gathered that the NFF management is not hoping to source for alternative source of funds to settle FIFA in that regard as they claimed that the inadequate budget for the team’s participation at the World Cup is already a major issue for them.

“We were given $1 million by FIFA for the team’s preparation and the cost of accommodation sent to us by FIFA alone is about $1.2 million. This is apart from other things that we are going to pay for during the World Cup. So the players would have to understand,” An NFF management staff confided in Peoples Daily Sports. 

Except something is urgently done to resolve the problem, it may affect the performance of the players and the semi final mandate given to Lagerback by the football federation.
