Good day everyone,

Gone are those days of phishing (read more on this pls), when black hat hackers send some malicious files to your email and ask you to click on it in order to have access to your e-mail account. The new tactic in town now is to call you on phone and use one of your online activities as bait(s).

For example;

I was called by some unknown crooks with the number 08135921697 last week, posing to be customer care representatives for an online sales forum which I'm a member. I was told that my account needs to be upgraded and that I should call my email address for them in order to confirm my identity, which I did. I was told that a code would be sent to me and that I should call the code for them.

Alas, when the code was received, it was a google account password reset verification code!

What they wanted to do was to change my password and lock me out of my gmail account. If the account is very important to me, maybe they'd ask for some ransome before the account is being released. Even if the account is not so important, they could use the account for fraudulent/dirty activities thereby leaving the stains on me!

This could happen to you, so, be guided!
Be quick to know what's suspicious and what's not. They can use any trick, but always beware!

I was called with the number 08135921697, they could call with any other mobile numbers!

In this era, cybersecurity and its awareness should be a top priority for all and sundry!!
