I still don’t understand why Peter Obi has refused to bring his Next mall to Anambra. grin

Everyday supermarket too. I hear he’s from Anambra.

Aku luo uno are not for these people
Peter Obi is a miser who thrives on cheating other people. The fraudster doesn't want to pay Azikiwe family that owns the land where he wants to site his mall in Onitsha, a fair fee for that large expanse of land. He wants them to give the land to him at a giveaway price which they refused to do. So in anger, he went to PH and bought land there for thrice the amount the Azikiwes were demanding in Onitsha to build a mall grin grin

Obiano inaugurates N1.2bn fish feed plant in Onitsha
By NAN | 30 March 2019 | 4:30 pm

Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra on Saturday inaugurated a modern fish feed production plant valued at N1.2 billion in Onitsha to boost fish business in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the private plant is owned by Grand Cereals Ltd., a Nigerian integrated foods company that produces and markets consumer food products.

The firm, which is a subsidiary of Nigeria’s oldest and versatile conglomerate, UAC of Nigeria Plc., produces Vital Fish Feed brand.
Obiano commended the firm, saying the project was an outcome of an earlier engagement between the government and the firm in 2015.

The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, said his administration was already partnering with the firm to integrate farmers into the project.

According to him, we are already working to ensure that the basic raw materials including maize, sorghum and cassava are sourced within the state.

The governor said the project fell within the agriculture and industry pillars of his administration and would help generate employment for the people of the state.

“We expect the facility to expand to employ more people and to ensure that the state is self-sufficient in fish production,’’ he said.

Obiano said his government would work closely with the company and other manufacturing firms within the Ogbaru Industrial Layout, where the firm is located to solve the problem of power supply.

“We are ready for more investors; we will like your Gala factory to come to Anambra because we are looking for investors,’’ he said.

In a remark, the Acting Deputy Managing Director, Grand Cereals Ltd., Mr Sanjeen Jain, explained that the company would begin production of 2,500 tonnes of fish feeds per month.

In spite of its production capacity, Jain said Nigeria currently has a supply gap of about 2.1 million tonnes of fish.

He said the location of its factory in Onitsha would bring fish feed closer to the farmers in the Southern markets, improve availability all-year round and further improve quality.

Jain commended the efforts of the state government at various levels to develop agriculture and farmers’ output via their various programmes.

“Grand Cereals will continue to contribute its own quota to the development of agriculture value chain in Nigeria,’’ he said.

Jain, however, said that prospects in the aquaculture sector could improve if government sustains its ban on the importation of frozen fish and poultry products into Nigeria and aggressive action against smugglers.

He called for the provision of new fish farming estates with laid-out farming plots and support services with accelerated grant of Certificates of Occupancy for small and medium-sized farmers.

Jain also called for special support to feed millers in terms of tax holidays and easier access to credit from CBN/BOA, especially those that are currently providing extension services and market development programmes.

Earlier, the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Afam Mbanefo, who commended the company for sighting its factory in the state, said the plant would assist the state government build its fish value chain.

He expressed confidence that in the next six months, fish sold in the state would be produced within.

Mbanefo further assured the firm of the continued collaboration of the ministry to achieve Gov. Obiano’s vision in the fish sector.

Also speaking, the National President of Catfish and Allied Fish Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr Rotimi Olibale, urged Grand Cereals to continue to partner farmers to tackle challenges in the business.

Olibale said that the Vital Fish Feeds produced by Grand Cereals were of good quality and were being recertified yearly to maintain the quality.

Something I've noticed about development in places like Awka and Onitsha, while Onitsha is getting more industrial and commercial at the same time, Awka is ever growing to be the hospitality capital for the state which I think it has attained already.
Big ups to both cities.

Anambra School Boys Win Bronze at World Tech Festival

By James Eze (eziokwubundu@gmail.com)

Four boys from St John’s Science and Technical College, Alor in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State have won the Bronze Medal at the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology which took place in Tunisia.

The 9-day festival which took place in Monastir, Tunisia from 21- 29th March this year was organized for students aged between 14-24 years from 40 countries and featured a scientific competition in different areas aimed at developing the innovative skills of young scientists and encouraging them to apply their imagination and creativity in solving problems in their environment.

To clinch the Bronze Medal, Ugwuishi Meshack Ogonna, Chuka-Umeora Onyedika Anthony, Nwachukwu Chukwualuka Daniel and Machi Chukwuagozie Dominic squared up to a stiff challenge from technologically advanced countries like Canada, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, China, Sweden, Ukraine, Malaysia, Brazil, Bosnia Herzgovina, Indonesia, Tunisia South Africa etc.

The Anambra Boys were only bested by Daniil Sharoykin from Belarus who won the Gold Medal with a quality water control equipment and a representative of another country who won silver in the competition. The Bronze Boys of Anambra achieved their remarkable feat with a device they called the Adaptable Alternative Power Supply for Sub-Saharan Africa.

The device is an electric inverter with a solar panel that enables it to absorb energy from the sun, warehouse the energy in inverter and subsequently distribute it in households and offices as the case may be.

The exploits of the Bronze Boys came barely seven months after five school girls from Regina Celi Secondary School Onitsha won the Gold Medal at the world technovation fair in San Francisco, USA.

St John’s Science and Technology College Alor is a public mission school which has benefitted immensely from the intense focus of the Anambra State Government under Governor Willie Obiano on education.

Receiving the boys in his office on Tuesday, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke observed that the state was doing exceedingly well in education at the moment. “The progress we are making shows that if you focus on a sector and show some seriousness about what you are doing, put the right people in charge, the results will come in.”

Dr Okeke further observed that “It takes a lot for kids to leave the shores of this country and beat people that come from the developed countries; to stand up and defend what they have produced and to show what they can do if given the opportunity. Listening to these boys talk with such confidence about direct current and alternating current, it shows that they own this invention. They understand what they are doing. I think they need to be encouraged more to continue with what they are doing.”

Earlier in her opening remarks, the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha had attributed the excellent results that the state has been recording in the educational sector to the huge investments made by the Obiano administration in education.

“Our partnership with the church is working very well. We have imbued in our students that global competitiveness and a strong belief in themselves; which is very important. We have perfected what we call a “value-based education.” Umu akwukwo Anambra believe that nothing is impossible, absolutely nothing. And “Yes, We Can.” That’s our slogan. The belief that nothing is impossible. These are things we have taught them. We have taught them our shared values too; that they must be the best in all they do. Today we are excited that again Anambra State has done Nigeria proud. That in a competition that featured over 31 countries, we came back with the bronze medal,” Prof Omenugha enthused.
