The  March 2010 NYFA film training in abuja (in  collaboration with their Nigerian partners- delyork) was 4 weeks of fun.

30+ professionals from the USA came to teach film directing,editing,3D animation, screenwriting, producing and acting for film.

some lessons I learnt that I'll share with fellow aspiring film makers-

-you don't need sophisticated equipment to tell a good story, master the tools you have even if its a camcorder.
-A maxim of film is 'show don't tell' i.e learn to tell stories visually, don't use dialogue to explain everything.
-you will learn a lot by watching movies; analyze how scenes were lit and why they were lit that way, the use of music or silence to create mood or tension etc.
-start small, work on several short movies (2-5 minute films) before attempting a feature film
-read,read and read. the internet is a cheap film university.

Don't condemn Nollywood, it is ours and we can and will make it better.

More grease to your camera.
