Nigeria, A Secular State: What's Wrong? by eodavids(m): 10:53am On Jan 03, 2018 |
Secular state as it applies to Nigeria means that Nigeria as a country is not of any single religion. It follows therefore that decisions of National importance will/should not be taken based on one religion. The entrenchment of secularism in Nigerian constitution was meant to serve a common good in the country. But notorious persons and groups have since faulted the arrangement, arguing that it has been favourable to one group and not to all, while the others argue in reverse. How true are such arguments, considering the fact that much benefits has accrued to all tribes, languages and believe systems through the secular nature which Nigeria practices. 'Value is never known until it is lost'. If Nigeria should abandone secularism; what is the better option, considering the mutual suspicion which has survived for decades in Nigeria? Isn't it the same thing as abandoning the unity of Nigeria to abandoned secularism? Cc: Seun, Lala., Mynd44, et'al please push this to the front. Prosperous 2018 to us all!. |

A multiethnic and multi-religious country like Nigeria can only survive if it hold unto secular practices and tenets. To want otherwise is tantamount to a call for disunity. |
