I read this thread https://www.nairaland.com/4274823/muslim-journey-islam-atheism-back
and I got really curious and have a question for the Muslim brothers and sisters that would care to put me through on this. I refused to reply on that thread because I will not take the "nairaland Islamic oath" as I'm not Muslim. So here goes:

The Qur'an proposes punishment (death) to apostates, so how could/should there be people leaving and returning to Islam? I would like to get a deeper understanding of this, and it's in no attempt to spew religious bigotry/hatred at anyone. Islamic scholars generally agree with this with the disagreement coming from how long to wait for the apostate to "repent" (1 hour? 1 month?) or how many times to ask him/her to repent (1 time? 3 times? 100 times?) before being killed.

Would be nice if no one turned this into an online religious war zone.

I don't understand your question
Are you saying anybody who leaves Islam dies and there aren't ex-Muslims

I'm not saying there aren't. I'm saying that from my understanding, there aren't supposed to be.

In places where the law is enforced, apostates can always come to the fold of Islam without any punishment.
