Buhari Destroyed Anpp, Says Shekarau ! by wales(m): 10:43am On Apr 13, 2010
The All Nigeria People Party (ANPP)'s 2007 presidential flag bearer, Muhammadu Buhari, destroyed the party and then dumped it for a new group, Ibrahim Shekarau, the Kano State governor, alleged yesterday in Kano.

Mr. Shekarau, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on media, Sule Yau Sule, accused Mr. Buhari of destroying the party before leaving for the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).

"With all due respect, Buhari has added value to the cause of ANPP; but it cost us more than what he brought in," Mr. Shekarau said. "ANPP started in 1998. Buhari was not there, so how can he be the backbone of the party as (claimed).

"By 1999, nine Governors were sworn in from ANPP, Buhari was not a member of our party by then. But by 2003, we lost two states while Buhari was in the party. By 2007, we came down to three and a half and Buhari was still in the party. Not even a single councillor from Daura nor Katsina, where Buhari hails from, won election under ANPP."

Mr. Shekarau said he doesn't intend to tarnish the image of Mr. Buhari, but said more prominent politicians would soon come out to narrate what Buhari has done to ANPP.

"More eminent persons are coming forward to give a truer account of General Buhari's sojourn in ANPP," he said.

‘Juicy fabrication'

The state governor, who was reacting to a story "why Shekarau is against Buhari" attributed to the CPC spokesperson, Dennis Aghanya, said he has nothing against Mr. Buhari and wishes him well with his future political endeavours.

"Shekarau has nothing personal or political against Buhari and the general had never personally claimed that Shekarau was against him," he said. "Like the party itself, Shekarau has accepted Buhari's exit from ANPP in good faith and has wished the general luck in his future political outings."

The Kano State governor said that, as far as he is concerned, there is no enmity between himself and Mr. Buhari, adding that any claims to the contrary are just a figment of the imaginations of persons he described as political jobbers.

"The enmity tale is a juicy fabrication of the Buhari organisation (TBO) jobbers angling for political relevance," he said. "Our candid advice to Buhari is to embrace democratic traditions, respect party decisions, think and act less like a Brigade Commander. Politics is a game of collective bargaining where political actors must be ready to subsume their egoistical itches under superior national or party interest."

A dumb governor speaking like a brainless brat. Is it the presence of Buhari that has led to the gradual loss of states initially won by the ANPP or the ineptitude of its leadership as exemplified by Umeh Ezeoke shamelessly hobnobbing with PDP?

In political settings where public officials are held accountable for their actions, somebody with Mr. Babangida’s history of numerous manifest crimes against Nigeria and Nigerians would have long been sentenced to a stiff jail term and permanently barred from participation in his country’s public affairs. Babangida’s ambition to maneuver himself once more into power is arrogant, condescending and downright insensitive to the feelings of Nigerians whose affairs he ruined during his term as military dictator.

It is certain that the outcome of Babangida’s inordinate presidential run will depend on Nigerians’ collective resistance or acquiescence. Enlightened Nigerians cannot afford inaction or consent by default in the face of the avoidable train wreck that is a Babangida presidency.

There is no question that, in the coming weeks and months, unscrupulous Nigerian politicians, hired hagiographers and commentators, will come out in droves to champion Babangida and to try to rewrite his tragic history. Many of these would-be praise singers have a record for contributing to the ruination of Nigeria through their own corrupt practices.

We are confident, however, that Babangida will be stopped by the strong will of the vast majority of decent, conscientious Nigerians. These forward-looking citizens have every reason to stoutly defend the right of Nigeria to move away from her sordid past embodied and represented by the likes of Babangida. They have the energy, passion and vision to ensure the transformation of Nigeria into a 21st century nation that is able to serve the legitimate aspirations of her citizenry and to command the respect of other nations.

Nigeria should move forward, not backward. The country abounds with talent, at home and abroad, able to arrest her stagnation and turn her into an enviable, even model, polity. The Babangidas in our midst only know how to take Nigeria further away from the path of meaningful development and significant progress.

To reward Babangida with Nigeria’s highest political office despite his atrocities would indeed establish a terrible precedence and encourage political leaders in the continued destruction of Nigeria. Surely, this is not the kind of signal Nigerians want to send.

The Nigeria Democratic Liberty Forum (NDLF) is aware of the ill-advised encouragement that some foreign governments have provided Babangida. We condemn in the strongest terms this attempt by foreign powers to foist a certified disaster on the Nigerian people, a move bound to perpetuate and deepen Nigeria’s crisis of development and stultified democracy.

In order to register the outrage and resistance of Nigerians, NDLF will forward a petition letter; http://petition.ndlf-ng.org with signatures of Nigerians to the US government as well as other governments in Europe that may be goading Babangida to steal power.

This petition should serve as the cry of millions of Nigerians who say NO TO IBB and to the foreign governments around the world that may be sponsoring him. This signature petition drive is one of numerous activities NDLF intends to embark upon to STOP IBB and his likes from continuing to hold Nigeria hostage.

We also encourage individuals in their own ways to mount a campaign against Babangida in an effort to take our country back. We enjoin Nigeria’s labor unions, civil organizations, professional bodies, artisans, religious groups, and ethnic group associations to rise in rejection of a Babangida presidency. IBB poses such a serious threat to the interests of Nigerians that we should forge a mass movement to demand that Nigeria must move forward and say NO TO IBB.

If you believe that Nigeria should not be sacrificed to Babangida’s unpatriotic and nefarious whims and egotistical ambitions, please sign the petition; http://petition.ndlf-ng.org. We also urge you to forward it to ALL the Nigerian contacts in your email box – and persuade them to sign.

You can also print copies of the petition and hand it to Nigerians in the streets, churches, mosques, and homes. Explain to them that the stakes are high – and they need to make their voices heard. Signed copies of the petition should be emailed to petition@ndlf-ng.org. Please avoid apathy and indifference. Be involved in this struggle to free our beloved country.

Go to http://petition.ndlf-ng.org and make your voice heard. FREE NIGERIA: SAY NO TO IBB

General Buhari,
The best (and only) anti-corruption leader our nation has ever had.

We should always be weary of thieving corrupt politicians criticising Buhari.

Buhari has proven he can take a very hardline on corruption which is exactly the medicine that our country needs.

I pray that he gets a chance to finish implementing what he started in Dec 1983 before the 419er IBB was sponsored by OBJ and other crooks to overthrow him.

OBJ and IBB and all their  embecilic thieving friends that have wrecked our nation should face justice. angry

Re: Buhari Destroyed Anpp, Says Shekarau ! by Drunk: 6:01pm On Apr 13, 2010
I want to believe he is right by what he has said and we need to have a critical look of things around the north and then we would have an idea of what it is like.

Most importantly, has no-one every pondered why the old horses keeps showing up for the new race? Why is Buhari keen in ruling Nigeria? He has lost it several times and yet he doesn’t give up. Not because he is competent enough, but he is selfish. Why can’t anyone of the old ones really support or sponsor a younger and brilliant candidate to make the change the claim to desire?

No! They all want to refill their coffers. Just within months or in between years Buhari has switched in between parties that cannot guarantee him Presidency. He was in the Mega party and now CPC where now he feels he can call the shot better rather than argue with other bright ideas. Did I forget to include that he has vengeance running in his spine when he assumes powers? Oh yes! We also should remember that Sharia Law we never wanted to hear would be the official legal system and what again, may be extremism

Oh, I’m not suppose to write all this

Re: Buhari Destroyed Anpp, Says Shekarau ! by HIROSHI: 6:30pm On Apr 13, 2010
Well said.

Buhari is the one that destoyed ANPP now, right? When he raised up the hand of Shekarau, a former school teacher, and lent him some credence before the fanatically pro-Buhari crowd in Kano, he was not destroying ANPP then. When people dumped the preferred party in Kano (PDP) and turned their backs on Rimi, Kwankwaso, Na'aba and the likes to vote in Shekarau because he was endorsed by Buhari, he wasn't destroying ANPP then.

Now that Shekarau felt that he had grown enough to be his own man, he said Buhari destroyed ANPP. Politicians!!!

Meanwhile, this Shekarau is being put forward for the presidency of Nigeria by some Northwesterners. Is this a plague?: To always present the worst to rule over the best?

Re: Buhari Destroyed Anpp, Says Shekarau ! by Nobody: 12:47am On Apr 14, 2010
@Drunk,
Please stop trying to taint Buhari with this Sharia Law nonsense, he is no more likely to implement Sharia law than any other president. In fact OBJ tenure oversaw implementation of Sharia law.

Also you have to look back on Buhari's 20months of leadership and judge him on that. During Buhari's tenure he never implemented Sharia law. So it appears you are trying to smear him, because people like you, who have probably done very well from the corrupt system are afraid of an anti-corruption leader such as Buhari getting into power.
