Partnerbiz: National Policy on Education (NPE) stipulates that the medium of instruction should be the language of the immediate environment of the child. Schools are free to select such Nigerian Language to be taught. No, it can not be overturned because the LASG did exactly what the FG and the constitution recommended especially the red lighted part. 3 Likes 1 Share |

deomelllo: The motive behind those comments was the highlight the true state of Nigeria's biggest city, instead of living In self denial, how you translated that into a hate speech beats me, I actually have nothing to proof to you.. believe anything you want to believe. Besides, of what relevance is your meaningless argument? The people of Lagos via their elected representatives charged to make decisions for the people of Lagos state made the right call, it doesn't have to be right in the eyes of Lagos hating people like you, but it's the right call in the eyes of the people of Lagos and the Lagos electorates. It's your state, do anything you so wish.. I just said what I feel. oodualover: so because I don't agree with this bill automatically makes me a Yoruba hater?, wow.. never knew opposing some else's view automatically makes him a hater. Stop the emotional blackmail, I gave my reasons why I don't support the language bill. Anambra and Lagos are not the same, let's take this example, the Urhobos/isoko hardly migrate east Ward, instead they tend to settle In western states like ondo, ogun and lagos, now laws like this will somehow affect any urhobo indigene seeking admission into any of Lagos state institution, or how do you explain to a young man in warri who wants to Attend LASU but was told he needed a pass Yoruba in waec, someone who hasn't been taught Yoruba all his life, I clearly understand you want your language and culture preserved, but believe me this isn't funny. And stop trying to turn this into a tribal ish.. I hold nothing against you. |

I love this federal system of Nigeria. All the states should take charge of their defense, economy, health and most importantly culture and language! Kudos to Lagos govt. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Amarabae:Exactly, first you let your culture thrive before you allow others in. Every developed nation state went through a period of isolation before opening up. If you open up too early, especially to people from the West, the more organized culture of the guests will overwhelm and diminish the hosts still maturing culture. 5 Likes |

Efewestern: No, I posted your own comments on different threads and different topics bashing, insulting and denigrating Lagos state and you even did the same thing in this thread even though this thread about Yoruba language Law in Lagos state, you still inserted your hate and disgust for Lagos by letting us know how dirty Lagos is instead of the topic of discussion which highlighted our true intentions and disdain for Lagos state regardless of any Language law or the main topic of discussion. How hypocritical, absurd and contradictory asking how I translated your comment into hate speech, shouldn't you be asking yourself how you translated the topic, Yoruba Language Law in Lagos state into Lagos is dirty? It's your state, do anything you so wish.. I just said what I feel. What you feel was generalization and ignorance since the whole of Lagos is not a slum and last I checked, they have slums in even the most developed countries around the globe. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Efewestern: What do I say to him ? Try Unilag, LASU was not set up to cater for such "migrants " . Isoko and Urhobo kids who have grown up in Lagos and whose parents are taxpayers should be catered for and they should be proficient in Yoruba. In future ALL kids who complete secondary education in Lagos must be literate in Yoruba. They are the ones that LASU must prioritise not children of non residents or non taxpayers. Those should try universities where they schooled or Private or federal universities The truth is that such people and even indigenous Yoruba people are no longer encouraged to learn Yoruba and that is why this is an excellent law. Jegede Sokoya the TV character was Igbo . He was born in an era when Yoruba education was emphasised. We need to get back to that In the UK UNIVERSITY education is free in SCOTTISH UNIVERSITIES for citizens in Scotland if you live there it is not free if you live in England Those who live, work and pay tax in Lagos cannot have the same entitlement as those who work live and pay tax in Delta state. With entitlement comes duties and obligations such as............ Learning Yoruba 5 Likes 1 Share |

omonnakoda: You didn't acknowledge the fact that we have so many Yorubas schooling in Delta, especially Delsu and Ozoro which are state owned , now imagine us asking those Yoruba students to learn Urhobo before they will be admitted, won't they feel we are imposing our language and culture on them? or should we say Delsu wasn't set up to Carter for their needs? So what you re implying is that, everybody should go to their state to further their education.. so much for one Nigeria. 1 Like 1 Share |

Efewestern: That's up to your state to decide, Lagos state government is empowered by the people of Lagos state to make and enforce laws in Lagos state, not Delta state. Lagos state doesn't function or exist based on what the people in Delta state are doing or not doing. Again, LASG did exactly what the FG and the National Policy on Education (NPE) recommended, it is up to Delta state to follow or ignore that recommendation, but stop acting as if you know more than the framers of that policy. So what you re implying is that, everybody should go to their state to further their education.. so much for one Nigeria. That's the individual choices people have to make and if it's so important or necessary for Yoruba students to school in Delta state, well, they have other options because I'm sure they have a Federal University in Dleta state without such requirements. They also have a FG university in Lagos without such requirements. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Efewestern:We are talking about a new law not the past. If Delta State makes a law then anyone wanting to go there MUST obey the law. No one is going to tell students already in LASU to go and do WAEC Yoruba.but new entrants is a different matter. Many people from Delta state live in Belgium, Netherlands, Italy and so on. Some die trying to get there. When they arrive they learn the language. You cannot insist on changing a place to suit you. YOU must change to assimilate GO and research the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and it's Language learning Act. There is nothing new or strange here MANY is a meaningless term. How many? What proportion. Those Yorubas do they live and do their parents pay tax in Delta? Please do not misrepresent my words. LASU is there primarily for those kids who schooled in Lagos regardless of ethnicity. As long as they are residents and their parents pay tax. They are priority 3 Likes 1 Share |

Efewestern: The fact that they have sanitation issues in Lagos or any other society on the surface of the earth doesn't mean they should and cannot make laws and you don't even get to decide when and how they can make laws. What about your own state? Don't you have slums in your state and the fact that you have slums prevent your lawmakers from making laws? Don't you think they have to clean up every corner of Delta state before their lawmakers make and pass laws in Delta state? You need to stop making these lame and ignorant arguments. if you noticed I didn't limit my criticism to Lagos alone, sometimes I do call warri names, I don't know why you were so concerned about lagos, and the last time I checked a huge part of lagos still looks unattractive, all thanks to our/Your "Good" leaders. I still don't see the connection between Yoruba Language Law in Lagos State and slums. Go to your state and tell them to stop making laws until they clean up your slums 4 Likes 1 Share |

Partnerbiz: Partnerbiz: Are you talking about the same Nnamdi Azikiwe University which came into being, as an offshoot of the defunct Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH)? ASUTECH which was established through Law No. 7 of 30th July 1980 by the Government of the old Anambra, and operated as a multi-campus university, with campuses in Abakiliki, Enugu, Awka and Nnewi. It was later taken over by the Federal Government by Decree No. 34 of July 15, 1992. 2 Likes 1 Share

I'm just surprised on how this country was even arranged into separate regions with each having a particular language.... if only ogun state that is very close to lagos is an Igbo state while that of IMO is a Yoruba state....den this level of unitary form of law bills been passed would have been at its minimum level.......interest, opinions, future growth of each region or state will never bring about that one NIGERIA so of us say as a common slogan.....I think we can only be one if all of us should just learn one language... and that should be...URHOBO....... HEHEHEHE......LAUGHS IN URHOBO |

Partnerbiz: You can not challenge the state for doing what the constitution recommended or for following the law. If you don't like the law, then lobby your lawmakers to change or amend the constitution that gave Lagos state the legal backing to create their Language law.. Learn that basic concept per the constitution and legalities before your next comment. 3 Likes 1 Share |

deomelllo: Laws made in Lagos state will somehow affect someone from another state, Especially regarding this Bill . Let's assume 70% of non yoruba don't have a pass in Yoruba and hence can't seek admission into any of the state uni, they will be forced to go to their state to seek for admission, on getting there they will still end up competing with the students from other states , It actually means that you can't school in my state until you understand my language, but I can school in your state. Again, LASG did exactly what the FG and the National Policy on Education (NPE) recommended, it is up to Delta state to follow or ignore that recommendation, but stop acting as if you know more than the framers of that policy.[/b] FG encouraged promotion of our local language, but not to use it as a criteria for admission. That's the individual choices people have to make and if it's so important or necessary for Yoruba students to school in Delta state, well, they have other options because I'm sure they have a Federal University in Dleta state without such requirements. Should every state follow this trend, I hope you know the implications. 1 Like 1 Share |

And yes, the language is here to stay. I hope other Yoruba states will follow. You keep trying to justify what Anambra did. There is no difference between them.
