Police arrest teenager for poisoning classmate in Ogun

A 16-year-old student of the Ikenne Community High School, Ikenne, Ogun State, Adewale Eyinfunjowo, is now behind bars at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for allegedly killing his friend, Ibukunoluwa Akinola, through poisoning.

Parading 25 suspected criminals arrested recently by the state police command on Wednesday, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr. Musa Daura, alleged that Eyinfunjowo came to school on the fateful day with a suspected poisonous weed, identified as Gegemu (anti-snake weed).

He said, "He kept the weeds in a bottle inside his school bag. Unknown to the deceased, he collected the bottle from his friend, which he taught contained ordinary water; ran away out of his sight and drank the water to quench his thirst, not knowing that that it was a poison."

The teenager, who was said to have plucked the substance in a friend's house, said he wanted to feed the family rams with the deadly weed, which was expected to make the rams stronger than other rams in contest.

Eyinfunjowo confessed that he learnt about the substance from someone who usually plucked the weeds from a friend's house, expressing regret for his action.

The command also paraded three pipeline vandals, Sadare Olajide, Adekunle Oyebajo, and Emmanuel Godwin, in Warewa, Ibafo, who already loaded three vehicles with stolen fuel.

Daura claimed that the suspects, who were arrested by the Divisional Police Officer, Ibafo, Gbega Megbope, scooped the stolen fuel from the restricted pipeline area of Warewa loaded with jerry cans.

The police boss also paraded a four-man armed robbery gang, which had been terrorising residents of Aboru Agbado.
