We have a long way to go in our educational system-our curriculums must be revised and updated with the ,modern trends-This begins with the workforce in our instutions, the facilities we have on ground and the incentives for academics-Many students do not even want to learn again. All they want is yahoo yahoo and dishonest businesses. I believe if we harness our efforts, we can still have functional education in Nigeria

Desyner:

Knowledge not updated is expired knowlege. In education, newer and superior knowledge generally overrides the relevance of older knowledge. Educational knowlege isn't a thing that rots away to be considered expired, it gets overriden by newer and superior knowledge to be considered expired. The prof is right.

First tell me how education can be expired? The only problem is that more research has not been done to upgrade the knowledge on ground due to inadequate funding and poor infrastructure.
I have a friend who had difficulties in his academics here in Nigeria his father withdrew him in 300level, registered for the same course in U.K... Over there he's a topper, which is as a result of the foundation he had in Nigeria.
As for me, I didn't receive expired education, there's a big difference between something that has expired and something that isn't updated. Though the guy made some points, but in my opinion, he used the wrong word of description.

Just imagine what will be going on in the minds of those present at the event.

The issue of expired notes is easily solved. Students can work this one out 4 d benefit of their junior colleagues:
~Find a way to grab d note and dispose of it.
~He\she has to keep teaching d course and must form new notes hopefully from recent editions of d relevant texts.
~Its d easiest way 2 force some 2 update.
That set of students may suffer d backlash of this action but what is done is done.

"and if you are doing computer, you should be able to produce your own computer..." wtf ?

A friend of mine travelled abroad when we finished secondary school here in naija. He went ahead to study computer science over there while i did the same here. My dear he builded a raspberry pi computer. How do u expect me to build that when most of my course mate can’t unscrew a desktop computer? Our education is outdated!

The man before had certificate..... what did he do differently to improve and update the sysytem? As the world moves forward our education is stuck... like sooo many of us.... regardless of what is discussed.... blame Buhari. We really have a problem.... only a long term plan an solve that...need to focus on those in kindergarten and primary schools.... may be a stretch to reset the minds of the older ones.... can't pour new wine into old bottles.

Prince, who stated that the nation’s academic system expired long ago, said that the leadership of Nigeria had continued to fail because the educational system failed to impact the right qualities and had not shown signs of recovery.

Prince said: “People in Nigeria are getting expired education. That is why you see people who studied engineering and are not able to do engineering feat. You see people who studied computer science and are not able to understand anything or diagnose computer language and what have you. This is because Nigeria’s educational system is a dilapidated one.

“The problem of Nigeria began from the citadel of learning and if you want to fix Nigeria, you must fix the educational system. This is because every Nigerian in leadership went through our academic institutions – politicians, scientists and leaders. They were not able to acquire trainings that could be used to advance the course of the country. If our leaders have failed, it is because our educational system has also failed. So, if you want to change Nigeria, change the educational system

That's absolutely correct!.

And if you haven't seen me regularly on Nairaland these days, that's because I' am writing a book on this whole topic. This's not just a Nigerian problem its an Africawide problem. We will never be able to develop with the current education we have.

Unless he read production engineering and worked at a particular company that builds raspberry pies, he did not build a raspberry pie - he programmed one. Computer scientists do not in the vast majority of cases build computers.

I could remember one of my lecturers then using a note he prepared even before I was born to teach us in 2013. Which way Nigeria?

And if there is going to be a reform in our educational system, it's certainly not going to be in this cowhari's regime. How can someone who didn't pass secondary school reform the Education of a country. Nigeria is indeed a shithole country. If I ever get the fu^ck outta this country, I'm never coming back.
Why didn't d clueless doctorate degree holder fix d education system of d country when he was in power?

Funny enough how some people are saying that Nigerians beats them over there in America. You see, that's exactly what he is saying, our mentality is so much on credentials that even when we are exposed to modern day learning we still neglect potentials. An educated man isn't known by the feats achieved in tests or exams but by the impact of his acclaimed erudition. If we keep producing millions of first class students all over the world and we have nothing to show for it as a nation in terms of advancement and development then it's as good as nothing.
