Slik07:

A sound SOP must be well paragraphed and each must serve a purpose. It must contain the following:

Brief introduction of yourself, your academic background and work experience.

Your intending program, school, start date and duration.

Reasons for choosing the program. Reasons for choosing the school. Reasons for choosing Canada instead of doing the program in Nigeria. How will the program benefit you? Narrow the benefits to economic, academic or career.

Is your undergrad degree related to the intending program or your work experience? This must be addressed.

What are your goals? Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Have your traveled out of Nigeria before? If no, why?

How do you intend to finance your studies in Canada? Scholarship? Self-sponsor? This must be stated with proof (SOA or sponsorship letter) shown.

Make a checklist of all the documents you're submitting with your application.

A well written SOP addresses all the denial reasons: purpose of visit, travel history, insufficient fund, home tie, asset & current employment situation etc.

Best of luck.

Very important part of a good SOP just to emphasize and must not be missed: what you intend to do upon return to Nigeria with the program; it’s lucrativenees and benefit to the Nigerian economy that warrants the difficulty and expenses of undergoing a foreign education.

@Austinpee4 good evening pls help out
Good evening House
Pls I need to find out something’s and this is like the 5th time am asking without no help
Please I studied English education n graduated 2012
Since 2012 I opened my own female clothing store and hv been to 10 different countries including Canada to buy things that I sell in the shop
The problem I hv is that I graduated with a 3rd class and getting admission is really hard
Secondly I want to go for a fashion and arts business program or international business management program
Pls does this go with what am doing presently
Pls what schools offers admission with 3rd class certificate .house pls help me

Yes your course of study is in line with your work. However, to get admission with a third class is like a camel passing through the eyes of a needle. MBA is your best bet and UNBC and UOttawa have relaxed requirements for people with 6-9years working experience. I know someone with a second class lower and 9 years working experience who was offered admissions into the MBA program. On the website if I still remember correctly, they indicated they reserve aithority to offfer admission based on exceptional circumstances to people with below the required minimum of second class upper, even those who have never obtained an undergraduate degree. You can choose as area of your MBA focus, international business management. The price tag is expensive though. 27k for tuition yearly. Add 10k room and Board and living expenses.

Do you or your wife have extensive travel history? Meaning have you travelled to a lot of countries? If not, apply alone. I will advice you apply for an SOWP for your family to join you. Easier for them to win than a visitor’s visa.

Well, I do have travel history ( studies(MSc), holidays and company training) - UK, USA, Europe, Africa; she also has been to the UK and USA a couple of times. Thank you so much for the swift response.

If you have enough fund to take care of your family in Canada, I would advise you apply for them together with yours. Going through SOWP no be small matter.

But if you dont have enough fund, then apply alone first and let your family apply via SOWP.

Best ot luck.

What questions to answer in your SOP to the visa officer (not necessarily in this order):

1. Introduce yourself and course of study in Canada
2. Why do you wish to study in Canada in the program for which you have been accepted?
3. What is your overall educational goal and overall career goal?
4. What have you been doing (by way of employment/professional development) since the completion of your undergraduate studies and now?
5. How will this program enhance your employment opportunities in your country of residence/citizenship? (i.e. how will your skill be valuable to the Nigerian market?), i.e. briefly explain the impact of your course on your future career and your home country
6. Why are you not pursuing a similar program in your country of residence?

The key reason why you are writing this letter is to demonstrate to the embassy that your purpose of visiting Canada is genuine, and that you will come back to Nigeria after your studies. It has to be very persuasive. Btw, the embassy knows that you might not come back to Nigeria... they are not idiots... what they need to be convinced about is that you would freely come back to Nigeria if you cannot legally stay in Canada anymore.

To convince the VO (visa officer):
1. you will need to be specific about what it is your Canada education would help you do once you come back to Nigeria. Just saying that you will come back home not convincing
2. you need to be specific about what it is about that program or its curriculum that would help you achieve your stated goals
3. you need to be specific about what it is you have done that makes you a credible applicant

Basically, you need to emphasize on what you have done and exactly what you will do when you return to Nigeria (be very clear and unambiguous about this).

No!! Student permit for you and visiting visa for your family. I recommended SoWp earlier thinking you had no travel history, which would make it extremely difficult for your family to win a visiting visa even though you have the funds to support them. But since you have extensive travel history, go ahead and apply for visiting visa for them and student visa for yourself.
