Misuse Of The Word Tout by tuzle(m): 8:00pm On Apr 16, 2018 |
I used the word TOUT to describe a friend of my behavior, and I was corrected by him that using tout is wrong, that the right term is LOUT. So I decided to use my dictionary and I saw is was correct TOUT (PLURAL TOUTS) SOMEONE ADVERTISING FOR CUSTOMERS IN AN AGGRESSIVE WAY. ▼ SHOW A PERSON, AT A RACECOURSE, WHO OFFERS SUPPOSEDLY INSIDE INFORMATION ON WHICH HORSE IS LIKELY TO WIN. (COLLOQUIAL) A SPY FOR A SMUGGLER, THIEF, OR SIMILAR LOUT (PLURAL LOUTS) A TROUBLEMAKER, OFTEN VIOLENT; A RUDE VIOLENT PERSON; A YOB. ▼ SHOW A CLOWNISH, AWKWARD FELLOW; A BUMPKIN. I have seen so many people use the word "tout" so many times on nairaland, so I just want to make the correction or if there is something I am missing about the two words, I can also be educated too. |
