The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State has been honoured by the Onitsha Catholic Ecclesiastic Province for his numerous developmental strides in the university in the last two years.
The Provincial Executive Council of National Federation of Catholic Students had earlier noted that the choice of Professor Nwajiuba as a recipient of the award was because he has acquitted himself creditably well in the discharge of his duties as the second substantive Vice-Chancellor of the university, stressing that the establishment of new faculties and academic programmes, constructing of the first asphalt roads in the university, beautification of the campus environment, support for research, academic and infrastructural development and other numerous achievements were testimonies of his commitment to the development of the university.

Presenting the award to the vice-chancellor recently during an interdenominational prayer session to thank God for successful two years in office, Rev. Fr. Peter Agbo accompanied by Rev. Fr. Dr. Peter Chukwu stressed that the award was in appreciation of his laudable projects in the university, adding that the vice-chancellor has shown enough commitment in the service of God and humanity and urged him to keep the flag flying.
Receiving the award, the vice-chancellor thanked the Catholic Church for recognizing his modest achievements in the university over the last two years, noting that he was ambushed as he had earlier vowed not to receive any award until the completion of his tenure. And therefore, advised individuals or groups preparing to give him award to convert it to sharp sands, chippings, cements and other building materials that could be used to develop the university. He also reiterated his resolve to taking the university to greater heights, urging everyone to join hands in making the institution great.

The vice-chancellor also used the opportunity to assure the Catholic community of the support of the university management in their quest to have a permanent place of worship in the university. Consequently, he pledged that the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of a catholic chaplaincy in the university would be done in August 2018.
The event was witnessed by principal officers, members of the university Senate and many staff and students of the university.
