Borrow that much at the eve of there Departure from Governance?
This is a clear case of getting there PENSION.

proudly9ja:

What does a man who's tenure ends next year need 60billion for? The airport he did not build since 2003 or the free trade zone he did not create in that same period he wants to do in 1 year.

Please reasonable Nigerians, we shouldn't even be debating the viability of the projects in Ogun cos its clear the guy just wants to rob the state.

I can almost assure you that he will soon announce that he will sponsor all the state house members to the world cup in SA and just before the world cup starts, they will approve the bond.

Exactly my sentiment. Why Now?

I am an indigene of ogun state and i have been living in the state for close to 2 decades. Gov Daniel has lost focus, the whole state is in ruins, from sango to abeokuta the roads are in a bad shape. no water and jobs for the youth. what we see on tv are just some blown up projects that cannot even add any value to the state. I think he just want to use the money for his retirement and that of his cronies. The state has suffered a lot under him, he shud just go in peace,

Driving thru abeokuta and sango is hell, no security of lifes and property, people are gunned down in broad daylight and armed robbers are having the best time of their life in the state,

I recall this same administration has pursued bonds worth billions in the past - the first question should be verification of the usefulness/otherwise of the previous bond issue.

Asking for a 60b bond less than a year before exit looks suspicious - such a seemingly large expense should've been foreseen before the last year of the administration.

It should be thoroughly scrutinized else the next administration might spend all its time blaming OGD's government for their lack of funds to spend.

Most states in Nigeria are very close to bankruptcy and really should not exist; Ogun state can be merged with Lagos.

SIMPLE: If he floats the Bond and gets the loan, Gbenga Daniel himself must be made to sign an "Undertaking of Guarantee" for the money.

He must pay the money back by himself (since he would probably be looting most of it!) else;
His Assets should be seized and he should be behind bars till he can refund the money.

No Guv'nor should mortgage the financial future of a state, for the nest generation.

I have stayed more dan 20yrs in d state, and I must confess d man has lost focus. He has started privatising d govt schools dat was d pride of d state in yrs back, I'm so disapointed in d gov.

Is it by force 2 develop d state with borowed funds, all citizens of d state say they don't want bond, then he shld let them be, if he can't do anythin witout d bond he cn honorably resign.

I have waited sufficiently enough to have gone through individual response and left with no choice but to comment on the topic. Frankly speaking with trait of non partisan and as an indegene of Ogun state. I wonder if anyone here watch the Governor on the state NTA programme in which he was pisplaying his desperacy to acquire the bond. He has concluded that nothing would be done if he was not allowed to obtain the bond. Candidly, is of no justification obtaining the bond as it will amount to waste at this point of his administration. He continues to clamour on the white elevant projects ( Agro- cargo airport, Free trade zone etc). Let ask him what he has accomplished with the OLOKOLA oil and gas. Those innocent indigene of Ogun state that were recruited were made to pay substantial amount as fees, given some deceptive training but ended up rendered useless. From the project, I know a lot of politicians who were enriched by the project that has not brought and benefit to the state. His administration is hghly indebted to banks, workers deductions are not remitted to the appropriate quarters. One of the Pension Fund Administrators in Ogun state even claimed that after paying through nose to secured a deal in the state, money has not been forthcoming since the government has refised to make appropriate deposit. This pension fund according to the state NLC runs into billion of naira, how would the affected be indemnified? If my opinion is surveyed, I am of the school of thought that says HE should not be allowed to acquire the bond as it will amount into enslaving the state and its generations yet to grow.

What is the benefit of running a state or creating states that are not economically strong, self dependent or have nothing to offer to it's citizen. If states could be created for a purpose, they could as well be merged together with prosperous states in the country (only if they are sharing border) for the benefit or well being of the people. Imagine how Nigeria would be if all other states Governors in Nigeria could follow the footsteps of Lagos State Governor - Babatunde Raji Fashola, Imagine how great the nation will be  if the slogan used in Lagos EKO ONI BAJE O (Lagos no go spoil) is used for the nation as a whole like NAIJA ONI BAJE O (Naija no go spoil o). Imagine how GREAT it would be if NIGERIANS stood up to hold those they call leaders accountable at all levels? Think about how we would not be scattered in every part of the western world looking for greener pasture and wishing MAGIC would happen, eventhough we are blessed with almost everything in our country  but instead MAKE SURE/FORCE all Governors do as good and even better than Fashola has been able to in Lagos. I believe that the creation of more states in Nigeria has only led to confusion and create more rooms for embezzlements and corruption. Like they say "too many cooks spoil the soup" I do not know how possible merging states in Nigeria politics is, but if this will be the solution to a better life of the people, why not?

For all those asking that the state be merge with another state, can you point and give example of any joined states in the world? and also mark the the benefit and after effect of the joint?

Its obvious that the guy wants to get some loothe to settle his boys before he leaves the office. How many normal citizens of his state does he feed on a daily basis that he need those money for? All in the name of starting a project that will get abandoned once the next man get in his post.
If that money is given to him, you will all see that ogd will act like marwa. he will also own commercial planes and probably get more loan to start a bank, as the public to buy his bank stock then waka or tell everybody that we have mismanaged ur investment, OLE BURUKU.
Re: Ogun State Government May Go Bankrupt? by SapeleGuy: 2:33pm On May 31, 2010
There is no need to merge any state, each state in this country is endowed with natural resources, start exploring the resources now.

Our people are just insincere - Give a man food and you have fed him for one day, teach him to fish and you have fed him for life. Embrace resource control.

Ogun has a budget of N100 billion for this year, they could easily increase this seven fold if they explored their Gold and other resources.

What about the reunification of East and West Germany. The reunification has not only made life easier for the former East German but has also promoted the business growth of the nation as a whole. Although there is still a gap in the productivity between the two parts of the country which is due to the fact that the Eastern German economy still suffers from the effects of the socialist experiments, nevertheless the East Germany economy has continue to grow at a faster rate than in West Germany and compare to the time they were Socialist and before the reunification. As of now, the the reunited Germany marks a strong economy in the central Europe. If it could work with people with different political background, why would it not work with us. Why do we always need to rest our heads where everyone else rest their feet and our feet where everyone else rest their heads.

Hi all,
Please don't take this too far, i remember when the Egba king raised alarm then, we complained but some people said we are just raising unnecessary dust now the realty is now on all of us. I will support the money should not be approved because he should account for past years expenditure please dear all visit OKE ARO and see the hell people are going through and visit the stadium he built in his home town, i'm not saying social amenities is not needed but not at the expense of welfare of the people. He not only witch hunt anyone on his way but also go after them If i lie please try to get close to Mr Olopade the former adviser to governor on student affairs and now Commissioner of Sports. How can a state of assembly mortgage its future knowing fully well the money will be diverted to personal use. Can anyone point to what he did this second term? Ok where is the pension money deducted from salaries? I know well if the bond is approved anyone who buys into it will make history in Nigeria for the first bond in Nigeria to have made loss like our crashed shares. Pls even if approved don't buy.

When will Nigerians that pride themselves as 419 nation will finally smell how they are being 419ed by their RULERS

This is a paradox, I still cant fathom.

Daniel is a fraud. A 419. Just like the rest of them!

What has he done in 7years that he now want to do in less than 12months.

He simply need money to ensure that his FAMILY are made once he leaves in April 2011.

He simply need money to ensure that his stooge will be Governor so he wont be running to Dubai like Ibori.
Re: Ogun State Government May Go Bankrupt? by sjeezy8: 8:34pm On May 31, 2010
so because he wants to take out a 60 bllion probably some of which he wants to chop also- the state is now going bankrupt abi?

The poster is an idiot. Ghana with all its loans- is doing better than 95% of African countries. There is no state in Nigeria that cannot fund its self- wth proper governance.

Ogun state can never go bankrupt- If there anything that is a problem in Nigeria its the simple fact that theres no federalism and terrible governance.

The example you gave which is highlighted above is seriously flawed. The fall of the Berlin Wall which led to unification of both East and West germany did and is still doing a great damage to the economy of the West Germans. The unification depleted Egermany's reserve, increased unemployment and welfare budget and crime increased 10-fold.It is no more secret that todays West germans are blaming the politicians of yesteryears for yielding to U.S's pressure in join both parts of germany together.

However,Ogun state can never be joined with lagos state but the leadership of the state should be changed.OGD is an abyssmal failure in the same level with OBJ, I hope we can condemn both these leaders to the deepest part of our memory.

Osun state also perfected plan to borrow almost N19 Bililon while 5 senior officials of Oyo state were detained by EFCC for mismanaging N8.2Billion,
Lagos state seems to be "the only man standing" while other surrounding states are wobbling and grasping for breath.
I hope all South-West leaders will be sent to Lagos to learn people and project management from fashola.
