Abia Under Seige Now! by ePAYSYSTEM(m): 1:49pm On Jun 03, 2010
The date was Friday the 21st of May, 2010 and the city of Aba in Abia State stood still in salute to up to 30 heavy armed men. Their mission? To hijack the Bullion Van carrying millions of Naira from intercontinental Bank Osisioma branch to another location.

The Story:
On that faithful day, the robbers who were dressed in Army regalia divided themselves into 3 groups. Group 1 stationed themselves inside the Osisioma Community at the junction just in case the van would take a different course. Group 2 was stationed behind the Intercontinental Bank just in front of Osisioma deport of the NNPC to signal the 3rd group when the van leaves the bank. The 3rd group was significantly stationed at the main PH-Enugu express way junction with Osisioma. Their mission was to destabilize the ATS policemen at the junction. The ATS before then was thought to be notorious to criminals and terrorists.

Some minuets after stationing themselves, the bullion van took off. Accordingly, the group at the bank alerted those at the junctions. At once, they opened fire on their opponents the ATS and suppressed them. Nobody knew why, the Bullion Van driver diverted to another lonely route. Even the mobile police men following him were amazed at his decisions. He said he suspected a bad day. The robbers lost their target and missed the money.

Armed with rage and heavy machine guns, the robbers declared an open war on all the banks along that Osisioma community road. They shut for 4 hours killing an ATS policeman and taking 2 captive (Alive) till today. In the past, when these guys take the police or Army captive like that, they release them with 2 ears cut off or tongue removed at the tip. The robbers then took their time to break in to the whole 6 banks there. Too bad for the banks and Nigerian security system.

New Discovery:
That incidence led to a new discovery –that the ATS deployed to forestall security is not anything but weak, un-equipped, corrupt dummies in security uniform. They only centre their interest on collecting money from motorists.

Just 7 days after, the robbers shut again for 3 hrs robbing 2 banks AFRIBANK and FIRSTBANK without any counter attack.
But, the incident of yesterday was so hard to believe by many onlookers. It was just like a war film. The robbers barged into Firstbank, Ecobank, and Fidelity at PH road, Aba. They purposely destroyed the bank premises and took away millions of Naira.

The Security in Nigeria has worsened:
Abia state has the ATS, the joint Army and Police squad, the Bakkassi Vigilante, and the Civil Defense corps. They all carry guns and prey strength against the thieves. Despite all these, the state leaves the citizens with fear of the next minute.

Can you imagine this:

1. The robbers wrote a letter to Firstbank demanding a certain payment in exchange for physical visitation. Due day, Firstbank refused to work. These guys now came the day they opened for work and decided to still take the money and destroy the bank.
2. The robbers have written a letter to the Central Police Station (CPS) to be ready for them. The CPS is where money is brought to with Helicopter before it is driven to the banks. Following the receipt of the letter of attack, CPS is now under heavy lock. Most policemen no longer appear in the office.
3. There are similar letters written to selected possible richmen in the state. Some pay, some are willing to pay with their lives. This is worse than kidnapping.

Under the above conditions, what can we do?
• Who are the robbers?
• Where do they live?
• Does it mean the govt does not have a solution for this long time treat to the people and the state?
• Can it be said that the police’ collection of N20 and N50 affect their agility and smartness in fishing out these guys who also use the public roads?
• Who tells them when money is leaving where?
• If you were a security personnel, what route would you take to tackle this menace?
• Who write these letters? I guess graduates! Would creating more jobs stop this kind of crime?

The reason we need to know more of how to solve this problem is that when it starts with Abia, it enters other states.

Well lets see!
