The Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has won the local government elections conducted across the 23 local government areas of the state.

The Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Chukwunenye Uriri (retd.), who declared the results of the election on Sunday night, explained that the exercise was free, fair and devoid of violence.


The All Progressives Congress boycotted the election, saying that it decided to obey court orders concerning the exercise that was conducted on Saturday.

Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent, the winner of the council election in Ikwerre Local Government, Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, expressed gratitude to the people of the area for expressing their confidence in him through their votes.


Nwanosike, who got 78,662 votes, pointed out that he would fulfil all his campaign promises to the people of Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Pdp and so much hypocrisy

They do the exact same thing they accuse others of doing.

El Rufai during the just concluded local government election in KD, did alot to make the process as transparent as possible. El Rufai could have used states resources to hijack the process in favour of the APC.
When pdp won some local government after the election, they claimed it was as a result of their popularity in state and even went further to claim that they could have won more if APC had not rigged the elections.
That's the same El Rufai that is vilified by Christians and described as intolerant and an extremist.

Just watch as pdp bigots troop in here to assert their claim over Rivers

The most peaceful election in the history of rivers state. Thank God apc boycotted the election. Had it been apc contested we would have been reading news like 'unknown gunmen kill 6 in obiakpor. Violence rocks polling stations across the state. Hoodlums hijack ballot box in ikwerre' and so on.

But this news is actually not good for our Democracy.
PDP can't win a LG in Lagos
APC can't win a LG in Rivers
APC can't win a LG in Ekiti
PDP can't win a LG in Osun.
LG election is a Selection process not election.
I didn't celebrate this.

I like APC for the tactical retreat! who wan see shame. At least it will be said we didn't participate.

Nigeria is a funny country we can vote for our State and Federal legislators/Executives easily on every national election exercise...but the only one that deals with the grass root people directly becomes very difficult to organize or its sometimes seen as less important.
