As we conclude the series on bringing out the leader in you today, let us consider three kinds of pain that a man may face in life. The first kind of pain is known to most of us but we don’t even deal with it.

1. Destructive pain:

This is the kind of pain that comes out of our mistakes and carelessness. Years ago, I had a hole in my tooth and after sometime, water entered the hole and it became very painful but it wasn’t problematic until it got to a point that I could not endure the pain anymore. At that time, it had become a destructive pain. Destructive pain always comes out of your mistake, negligence, carelessness, stubbornness or self-will. Sometimes, destructive pain arises from a refusal to receive and apply information of caution.

2. Constructive pain:

This is the pain applied in order to remove or undo destructive pain. If there is something out of sync in your life because of your carelessness, it will bring some pain. Most Christians have been deceived that prayer alone will remove destructive pain but you must allow constructive pain at some point. Problems persist in believers’ lives when they forget that there is need for constructive pain in order to remove and undo destructive pain.

3. Pain of purpose:

This is the pain that people who desire to perform at a higher level in life, career or calling must put themselves through to acquire some new levels of energy. If you want to be an athlete or a boxer, you will need to start jogging early in the morning, running for kilometers, and build up your upper body strength. The sport you want to compete in will determine where you concentrate your morning exercises.

Many people want to perform at higher levels but they don’t want to go through the pain of purpose; for such people, their success and greatness will continue to be a mirage until they pay the price.

PRAYER: Lord, I embrace the pain of purpose in the direction of my calling, my destiny and my career. Deliver me from the laziness that makes greatness a mirage in Jesus’ name.
