CU first class graduates come ekpoma come get the first class!!!e sure say na 2:2 na go see.una brain no go fit carry am

We are talking of universities here not glorified secondary schools who breed cultists.
Most of the best universities in the world have a much higher first class rate than that of CU. Would you also say ekpoma is better than those?

Very soon, comparing most private unis to public unis in Nigeria would be like comparing state owned primary schools to the private schools you have around except something drastic is done.
Just BTW, I'm a product of a prestigious Federal university but I don't applaud backwardness.

Chemistry doesn't hard for me try to understand that... You didnt study the course so I won't argue with u, is like say someone did 70 courses and had 69 A's and 1B, that can only happen in waec.....oga forget that thing it can only happen in private universities and don't forget say we did some crazy practicals. If the guy come to unilorin am very sure that he will make first class but that 4.99 is not fucking possible.
Don't say that,i am a graduate of Industrial chemistry and i think i am in better position to speak. It is possible because i had strong 21,which is very close to first class but because of these factors such as Chronic Muslim lecturers in my school in ilorin who is also a stammerer compounded the situation, also based on politic I.e.want to favour those they know, and also my own factor too is keeping a family,i.e no much time to concentrate,i will go to work, take care of home.

lols in my dept last year just seven 2:1 there were these sets of guys that were extremely good our lecturers held them in high esteem always using them as a reference point one was even elected our departmental president but none among them even made a 2:1..I was surprised them baff them with 2:2.. fear AAU

In a progressive country, such place would not be more than a primary school. The role of a university/lecturer is not to brag about their failure rate but rather get fulfilment in producing better members of the society.

What's even more annoying are the young students who brag about such poor records rather than being angry about it and asking for a change. Is it Stockholm syndrome or what?

Over 12.6% percent making First Class. This is a joke. Not possible in federal or State Universities

Perhaps forever impossible idk .. Buh you'll be surprised to learn some universities like UI work towards it.
Check the jpg below .. UI compares itself with the University of London and works towards the same(or better) convocation stats.
BTW, 'I' is the VC of UI.

Those factors are what am saying...we re taking about 4.99 here u re taking of 2.1....nothing concern me with 4.49, 2.1 is 2.1.....oga I also graduated from unilorin...if u worth ur first class they will eventually give u....don't give excuses

We know the public schools are shity but one constant fact is that a first class holder from a public University is heads and shoulder above the one from a private school .I know of people who couldn't score 200 in jamb graduate with first class from private unis lol.

That's because you erroneously think someone who scored 200 in JAMB is mentally deficient. Someone with 200 can under the right condition and dedication make a first class. liberate yourself

this is what you get when someone behind a university does not know the meaning of universitas and when his chief aim is vain glory and chest beating.those of us who made second class upper from ife knows we have a very valuable degree respected worldwide and do not mind the fact that ife faculty of law doesnt give a first class then.

why will a mn never satisfied with boasting and chest beating not give eeryone in his university a first class.is it not good for his balance sheet?.

Do they know anything about standards at all ,about monitoring of standards, cant they learn how havard degrees remains highly valued over decades, cant they see how poorly remunerated lawyers in nigeria now when the market is flooded with all manner of lawyers?

Bro, you have made a very valid and wonderful point. Let me be frank with you all, covenant is a very good school no doubt. Education requires a conducive environment and an up-to-date teachings as well as researches. That is why I intend doing my Masters degree either in Europe or Asia.

Do it in Asia, you'll never regret it
Did some courses in India, na make them cut my head put book inside remain

Lecturers were offering to come to your house and stay back after class just to make sure you understand everything

The best way to validate this first class degree is to establish professional schools like the School of Law which should be made compulsory for all graduants before they can seek for gainful employment. This will reveal the calibers of graduates these schools are turning out. You can have first class in one school and not even make second class upper in another school in the same field of study.

We should have school of Engineering.
Medical School.
etc.

to properly test these graduants and brush them up before releasing them to the labour market.

My dear its not possible because public universities especially state universities really know how to frustrate their students and the environmental factors are also not helping matter, I believe if I studied my course in CU, I would have made first class instead of second class upper.

Typical reasoning of an average Nigerian who glories in suffering. You mentioned Harvard but I doubt you've been to a university in the first world because you'd have the deficiencies in our system. For you to say that a department in the university you went to refused to award first class irrespective of whether it was merited or not gives credence to the fact that that university is just a glorified secondary school. Or do you think that's how it works in Harvard.

The fact is that if things continue the way they are, comparing Ife to CU in a few years would be like comparing Nigeria to America.
There is no glory in backwardness

Its not about graduating first class. How many of this first class graduate can boast of employment after graduation and service? How many of them will be awarded with jobs, or money to start up a business? Only about 5% may be able to boast abou jobs after their service year, but people like ex BBnaija housemates that promoted porn on national TV will be getting millions and awarded contracts. What's the way forward in this our "beloved Nigeria"?
so they shouldnt graduate again? must you be employed? go learn skills and stand on your own

This is Covenant University. Many of their parents are wealthy, influential and connected. Many of the graduates can either be fixed up or traveled outta the country.

If it had been public universities, your post could be appropriate.

We had a 15% First class turnout! But I believe CU would have done better If they had implemented the third semester system which was initially proposed by the former VC. This would have ensured that people with failed courses could retake the courses during holidays(summer) rather than piling failed courses for people during new sessions.

CU should understand that students who failed during normal semesters are usually too demoralized to learn anything in carryover classes. Plus this carryover classes, especially the likes of CHM212(physical chemistry) are usually overbloated with carryover students that it makes learning uncomfortable for everyone.

Lastly on piling carryovers. The consequences of pilling carryovers in a public uni might be minute and limited but in a private school it is devastating, especially to middle class families who have to dole out an extra 1 million naira.

And for anyone who thinks that CU is producing too much First class degrees please chew on this. There is no telling what people can do if giving the right environment to succeed. And yes some of the numerous people who make First Class degrees in UK universities may find it difficult to replicate in OAU. But that doesn't make OAU better than Lancaster or University Of Edinburgh, but a reflection of a choking system in the Nigerian University System which prioritises difficulty and stress over learning.

Codetemplar

Sadly, African Universities, Nigerian in particular, take pleasure in frustrating their Students. Making it seem as though thriving for excellence is a crime!

I do hope in near future, this PHD (Pull Him/Her Down) SYNDROME will come to an end for good!

Truly, CU has proved that private schools education is far more better than public schools.

If these first class graduands were to school in public school, they may not near these feats. Kudos
