Syndrome or no, I have communicated. The system I was raised in taught allowing people to air their views without being confrontational and vulgar. Let me educate you more, public university lecturers and professors laid the foundations of the institutions you are boasting of today. So sir, many of them taught me and they still do albeit in the dysfunctional system, we are better !

Confrontational and vulgar? Hmmm... I'm still looking for that. That they inherited a semi- functional system from the colonialists and ran it down does not mean we should continue in that state and not ask for a change.
BTW, by "we" you mean??

Well to each his own.

We are talking of universities here not glorified secondary schools who breed cultists.
Most of the best universities in the world have a much higher first class rate than that of CU. Would you also say ekpoma is better than those?

Very soon, comparing most private unis to public unis in Nigeria would be like comparing state owned primary schools to the private schools you have around except something drastic is done.
Just BTW, I'm a product of a prestigious Federal university but I don't applaud backwardness.
u r just insensitive trying to seek cheap relevance, cultism isn't peculiar to ekpoma alone four years in ekpoma I was never intimidated by any1 neither was I coerced to join any group I am sure u are not better than a 3rd class graduate of that institution.I am not in support of a system that frustrates a students effort but don't come here and spill trash..After paying ur way to gain admission with your empty head the best you can offer after four years is I am a product of a prestigious university. its high time u grow up,that dubious feeling of I attended a Federal university does not make u better than anyone even a third class graduate of state university not to talk of the first state university in Nigeria.

Something can be done and already some public universities are changing although slowly e.g UI. The success of CU and the fact that the top people in the society now overlook them and send their wards to CU are making them see that there's no benefit holding back what someone merits or making the environment unconducive.
It only put their graduates at a disadvantage when compared to the outside world. The world is now a global village.
A lot of things are changing here thanks to the new VC.A lot of reforms have been put In place to check the excesses of these lecturers. 100l to 300l exams are completely computer based solely controlled by the ICT units.pretty soon they will begin to churn out graduates based on merits and not on a self imposed quota where students cannot meet certain standards.

Lol... Cool down Bro... I wonder why you sound so pained.
It's so easy to make snide remarks against private unis but when one questions the veracity of your claims, you go beserk. FYI, I've referred to both state and federal universities as public unis and used both interchangeably on this thread with no willful attempt at discrimination. Facts still remain what they are - facts.

Also, no need going ad-hominem trying to compare me to a student of your said university. First I'm not going for bragging rights here. Secondly, I didn't read a four year course. Thirdly, my admission was on merit and lastly, the course I studied only just recently got accredited in your said university.

Finally, this isn't about me or you, but the rising credibility of private universities and the falling standards of their public counterparts.

That's good to hear.
I remember when computer based tests were introduced in my university for first years. It almost eliminated the issue of lost scripts and students started making very good grades in their first year.
Some departments even went ahead to introduce it for second and third year students
Not too long ago, I heard of a public university that introduced students appraisal as part of a prerequisite for promoting lecturers. As you would expect, within a few months, the issue of missing scripts and so many other irregularities began to disappear.
Truth be said, some public universities are embracing positive change but then, so much more can be done and at a faster pace. I really like the whole attention sex for marks issues are getting now from the government. It's part of putting more pressure for a better society.

I went to this same CU and there has been only 1 first class graduate from the Department of Mass Communication till date (I'm not sure that has changed)

How can u easily have a first class in public universities when

-Cultists will chase you up and down
-No conducive environment, hostels look like where they rear Pigs
-Classes are meh, 200 students in a hall that's supposed to accommodate 90 students
-Lecturers are interested in sleeping with students or selling textbooks. Some don't even Come to class
- You can not walk up to your HOD /VC to have a discussion
- Lecturers see themselves as God
- Lecturers use the same outdated material year in year out

If you have ever left Naija, you'll see how real education is supposed to look like and you'll see how far Covenant University has Come.

During My IT while I was in 200 Level, I was assigned to Hnd Polytechnic students to help in correcting their English before it goes on air (news articles).. Those students made me thank my stars for the school I went to.

Quote me if I have lied anywhere in my Reply

The bold is the reason why I think some student should have better chance in public units. If a lecturer uses old materials to lecture you then that makes the workload predictable and easier to study in advance.

In CU if a software for let's say architectural drawing become the industry standard today they speedily adopt it and that makes the course works more unpredictable to students.

The don't forget the extra minimum of 16 units of TMC and EDS you must take. EDS practicals alone and TMC physical aspect should bring that value to 35 units or two semester equivalent in most public schools dept.

It also applies to examination questions.
Add to this the fact that practicals are unavoidable and the fact cheating is harder in examinations.

You cannot suppress excellence with crowd mentality forever.

How can you spend millions and not graduate with first class?
Person like me spending such money and u did not give my kid first class I will burn down half of the school because everyone there deserve first class
Don't be naive. What they learn there is far more than just mere education. They go as far as spirituality and integrity and you know that's what makes them stand out

The time you guys are using to argue about these first class students and whether or not it is a glorified secondary school, they are making waves at the moment, getting offers already, scholarships already so I'll adcoise you guys go get a life and let them be.

Mass Communication in CU is not beans at all.

It is blood and sweat. They travel around the nation for assignments and projects

And for the information of all, the average CU graduate has 1-5 professional certifications. Are you trying to tell me that they also bought this?

Accounting students as at 200L are done with ATS and by the time of graduation have ICAN some ACAA

Talk of NIPR or APCON certifications for Mass communication students

Other engineering certifications like COREN and stuffs.

All 100L students are made to undertake professional exams in a zero-unit course, CIT (MOS, SAP, CCNA, etc) These children reasoning at a dangerous frequency. You need to hold an intellectual conversation with the right CU student.

Tell me how you want to rival with CU graduates in the job market.

And all CU students have a working knowledge of startups and have been part of 1 or 2 during their studentship.

Should we talk of their Core values.

I would suggest you do that if NECO is not going to come out before August ending.. However, before you do that call the admission office and ask if you could still change.

Lastly, you should also attempt Landmark's post utme just in case CU doesn't walk out the way you intend. You still have an high chance of getting your computer science in landmark. This is because lmu would wait till NECO comes out before closing off their admissions. Wishing you the best!
