Igbo Women As Good Patriots - Opinion. by Masterclass32: 3:59pm On Sep 08, 2018
By Simon Abah.
The intention is not to downplay the significance of other tribes and women in Nigeria. Certainly not; one cannot legislate love and goodness. I have travelled widely in this country and interacted (and still interact) with people of different backgrounds and tribes. One group of women different from others is the Igbo. Igbo women tower above women from other tribes, for the simple reason that they are friendly with people who aren’t members of their geographical block as a matter of course. They don’t fake it. It is just who they are. Many women elsewhere see making friends as a risk and recoil from making friends with people outside their locale. With some, you don’t stand a chance. Without reservation, Igbo women are very receptive and most do not mind marriage to a non-Igbo.
I sometimes wonder if people would be better treated if they only married from their backyard and built themselves up by building up their people while ring-fencing others. So why do many women someplace surround themselves with people from our ‘tribe?’

Wouldn’t love be a phony baloney and a bollocks if we only respect our own, only care about the people who are ours and give them credit for everything novel and good whilst placing failure on other people.‬ Relationship-building can’t be legislated upon but might it not be better if all women in this country are as integrated as the women from the east? If this were so, demonstrations of honesty and integrity would be easy.
After all, a country can only be built when people from all divides are engaged and their strength leveraged for the benefit of others. The country needs to be peopled with folks not afraid to take risks. Women who aren’t secure, with feelings of inadequacy always seek approval from men. A woman lost her child who was sick only because she was scared to take the child to the hospital without the say-so of the husband who was not at home, despite pressure from neighbours to do so. Most Igbo are socially aware and do not walk on egg-shells in their social interactions. I may be wrong but they are expressive, energetic and optimistic. Nigeria needs to envision the future and one way is to look at the women of the east as a case study for unity. If they can, then we all can. Many people need to be convinced about oneness so they can coach others and lead them in a new direction.

Empowerment of people should be total so as to enable them focus on the right things, be thick-skinned when men of straw with no history come calling, and have a high sense of duty to fatherland.‬ The women I know who embraced change and yet failed, only failed because of bad guidance from kinfolk behind the curtain. All told, Igbo women are a special breed.

In response to this article, it must be said that prior to a Nigeria, Ibo women did not have much social rights to begin with. The most obvious of social and cultural privileges were denied to them by the customary laws and ethos of Iboland itself.

Since the begining of Nigeria, incremental improvrments have been made to improve civilization and social norms of Ibo, latest of which was passed very recently by Supreme Court recognizing, in opposition of Ibo culture, that women can inherit their deceased spouse and daughters can inherit their deceased fathers.

These push to civilize and bring the group to modernity is typically championed by civilized groups external to it. The British for instance introduced Ibo to urban settlement. They also gave it centralized administration with introduction of warrant chiefdoms. But it's the Yorubas that have played a larger role as surrogate and taught the Ibo a standard of its language and helped promote cohesion among previously disparate and non-relating communities. Yoruba also brought and instituted Christianity into their midst and which helped to shape and refined the custom towards modern civilization. When osus in Iboland discovered that what is denied to them and forbidden for their children were accessible without condition or status in Yorubaland, they began a new wave of migration to escape persecution in East and find liberty in West for them and their children. The migration continues till today. Many Ibo elite today gained social status change in Yorubaland and fearful of returning to East and stripped of their liberty, have vowed never to return to Iboland.

So Ibos have capacity to change their fortune and that of their land by simply acting within its own customs to redefine and rebrand for modern civilization and stop waiting on outsiders to give it relief against self-defeating and non-advancing static existence.

Durotimi is what is shortened to Rotimi. Its a Yoruba name.

Giwa is not a muslim name in West. That will be like saying Danladi is a muslim name in North.

Giwa had been in use in Yorubaland before Islam. It is in same class for names like Agiri, Seriki, Dauda, Gbadamosi, and so on....

Typical Afonjas and obsession with Igbo women are like 5 and 6. I have told them time and time again, Igbo women are only loyal to Igbo men and men of other tribes or races who they see, show, possess and provide the same confidence, masculinity, strength, bravery, security, protection, work ethic, honesty, finance and wealth as Igbo men. All of the qualities I mentioned above, will make any women of any race submit to their man. So don't think any man or any idiot can make her submit. Go on youtube and see other African women saying how they are attracted to Igbo men.

The Igbos have one of the lowest divorce rates in Nigeria, and if tallied globally they will be ranked way up there with Jews and Mormons, courtesy of their family structure. Coincidently, Dr. Thomas Sowell wrote in his book the reason why Jews, Mormons, Igbos, Chinese are very successful is because of their superb, bullet proof family structure. Conversely, Yorubas have the highest divorce rate in Nigeria and will be ranked top 10 in the world. Most Yoruba families are headed by women! I grew up in SW, so I know very well! Which is why the their men are running to Igbo women to achieve family stability which is very naive of their men because Igbo men raised these Igbo women, SO WHY ARE THEY NOT RAISING THEIR OWN WOMEN GOOD ENOUGH LIKE IGBO WOMEN? Why would Yoruba women respect you if you are behaving like this? I wasn't surprised when I saw that video of Yoruba women wanting Igbo men. If I were Yoruba woman, I'll want Igbo men too to be honest!

Igbo men won't even touch an average Yoruba woman even a stick, though they could be hardworking but they lack communal and personal hygiene.
Yorubas don't understand family as a unit and it's rubbing on them daily, their women have kids out of wedlock which to them is normal. Their men don't mind sleeping with the wife's cousin and younger sister as the same night and still flaunt love children he got three different women.
