A move which had been initiated by the Cross River State House of Assembly on 25th June, 1982, to impeach the State Governor and his Deputy, died without a whimper, This historical episode became a real threat to welfare of the people and the Government of the Cross River State for a while.

This historical update showcases in sequence how far the House of Assembly went it contains the formal notice of the Impeachment to both the Governor and his Deputy the formal charges on both of them; the replies from their Excellencies, and the record of voting pattern during the exercise.

This is to inform, educate and enlighten the citizens of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large. It is also for reference and documentary purposes.

NOTICE OF ALLEGATION OF GROSS MISCONDUCT.

In accordance with Section 170 (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1979, I forward herewith a copy of the notice of allegations of gross misconduct on your part presented to me on Thursday, 24th June, 1982 and signed by 48 members of the Cross River State House of Assembly. Details of the particulars of gross misconduct are stated in the notice.

It would be appreciated if you would, as soon as possible, forward to me your statement in reply to the allegations made against you. Meanwhile please acknowledge receipt of this letter by signing and returning the attached acknowledgement slip to me through bearer.

Brothers and Sisters, this was how the journey to His Excellency Clement N Isong not returning for a second term started.

Subsequent edition will show case his reply to the House Of Assembly on allegations leveled against him warranting impeachment.

Etinan LGA had two members from Northern and Southern Iman respectively in persons of Hon Ishmael Akpan Ukpong and Late Hon Michael Thompson Ukoh.

The member representing Iman North signed the impeachment while his Southern counterpart declined. Late Clement Isong ake do ata ayin Iman, from Awa Clan, Ikot Udo Esang village of Nung Oku Itina Group.
