over 2017 agreement Indications have emerged that the Nigerian Labour
Congress (NLC) may suspend a warning strike it
began over the delay in the implementation of a new
national minimum wage. The Nation reports that the organised labour may call
off the strike today, Sunday, September 30, following
the intervention of the presidency through the office

to have assured a delegation led by president of NLC,
Ayuba Wabba, that President Buhari will address the
concerns of labour upon his return to the country
from the United Nations General Assembly. He then

to suspend the strike does not rest entirely on the
National Administrative Council (NAC) of the NLC,
adding that other organs of both NLC and Trade Union
Congress (TUC) were involved. The various organs of organised labour are said to
have met to review the government position and
may reach a decision to suspend the action soon. Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has threatened to embark on a nationwide strike if the federal government fails to implement
the 2017 FGN/ASUU agreement. Lawan Abubakar, the Bauchi zonal coordinator of
ASUU, at a news conference in Jos on Thursday,
September 27, expressed surprise that the federal
government has yet to implement the various
agreements aimed at revitalising public universities,
as agreed in 2017, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Abubakar regretted that only 7% of the total 2018
budget was allocated to the education sector, and
called for the immediate release of the N20 billion
